Musikong Bumbong @ Are filipino marching bands that use woodwind instruments that are made of bamboo. The shape and the sizes are similar to brass bands instruments but have different soiunds., @ Musikong bumbong, which translates to “bamboo music,” stems from the spanish era when nationalist Filipinos thought of “localizing” the Western brass band. @ It was important to the nationalist that these bamboo instruments were created. In fact, the march “Veteranos de Revolucion” was first played by a musikong bumbong. Musikong Bumbong The D' Original Malabon Musikong Bumbong started as a plain Banda de Boca in Barrio Tonsuya, Malabon in 1896. @ Felix Ramos was both the founder and inventor of the bamboo instruments. The first member of the band were all Katipuneros. The band was renamed several times but its is currently known as Musikawayan under the leadership of P/Lt. Col. Gilbert M. Ramos, a fourth generation descendant of the band's founder. THE BAMBOO ORGAN The bamboo organ is adopted from the Western pipe organ that is made of metal tubes. The only surviving and functioning bamboo organ in the country is the Las Pinas Bamboo Organ inside St. Joseph Parish Church. The 200-year- old instrument has been named a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of he Philippines. A spanish friar, Fray Diego Cera, built the instrument for eight years. FRAY DIEGO CERA The Bamboo Organ The instrument Bamboo Organ was unplayable. The Philippine Government decided to restore the Bamboo Organ. The pipes were brought to Bonn, Germany for restoration. The Las Pinas Bamboo Organ came back to life, an annual music festival is also celebrated in Las Pinas- The Bamboo Organ Festival De La Pefia Arangoso, LPT Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic, unaccompanied sacred song in Latin of the Roman Catholic Church. Gregorian chant developed mainly in western and central Europe during the 9th and 10th centuries, with later additions and redactions. Most of the sacred music in the Philippines is rooted in the Spanish colonial traditions infoduced by the colonizers. Liturgical Music- refers to music that is used during the Holy mass, and in other forms of Non- Eucharistic liturgies such as vespers, and bible based texts. Liturgical music is based on the text of the Mass that is mosey om the the Credo(Creed), mio eae the Sanctus(Holy, Holy) and eS the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). the Kyrie(Lord have Mercy), the Gloria(Glory to God), PANGINOON, KAAWAAN MoO KAMI MELODY ee ee aT ae Devotional Music- refers to music that expresses respect and devotion to God outside of a liturgical setting.Music heard in religious activities such as Senakulo, Pasyon, Flores de Mayo, and Salubong may be considered as devotional music.
