INTRODUCTION

Manual preparation of exam questions is a challenging task for educators especially if there are
several classes and there is limited time to prepare. It requires a lot of time and effort to meet
the standard quality of exam. Web-based testing and assessment systems offer greater
flexibility than the traditional approach because test could be offered at different times by
students and in different locations (Akanbi & Adetunji, 2012).
Teachers at school use examinations to assess their students' knowledge in a specific subject.
Traditionally, the test is conducted on paper. The exam questionnaire will be printed and
distributed to students in a classroom. Face-to-face contacts between students and teachers
are required for this type of testing procedure. The traditional method entails a severe manual
burden, which includes printing the questionnaire, proper examination, and checking the
examination result. The outcome of such a test can help instructors analyze problems with
his/her method(s) of instruction and to better understand the learner’s strengths and
weaknesses in a given subject. Test can be used to fine-tune the instruction environment or
method based on the analytical results to improve the instructor’s teaching performance (Chen,
et. al., 2005).

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The explosive growth of the Internet is making available radical new means of
communication that affects life in diverse areas as business, entertainment and education.
While older methods of accomplishing tasks continue to be used, the Internet offers
unique advantages (Rahneva, 2004). The "CpE Questionizer" (Exam Management System) was
created to overcome the issues that existed in the previous manual system. This program is
supported in order to eliminate and, in certain situations, decrease the difficulties encountered
by the current system. Many examinations in school are using paper. Marking of those exams is
large burden for teachers (Koyama et al., 2010). Moreover, this system is designed for the
particular need of the department to carry out operations in a smooth and effective manner.
This system will be developed to support adaptive and standard testing, along with automatic
grading, record keeping, and test administration. The Exam Management is a system will be
created to help faculty members in distributing exams to the students as well as to help
students in accessing the exams easily.

STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVE
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
The researchers aim to design, develop and implement an automated exam management
system to replace the manual method.
1.1 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Face-to-face classes will soon to be implemented this school year and it will be very beneficial if
a system can administer exams for students and can store database of the exams in a faster and
convenient method. Preparation of test questions is a time-consuming process. The larger the
class, the more time will be required. Exam Management System (EMS) at Notre Dame
University Bangladesh (NDUB) is an effective system for managing exam and course-related
activities for NDUB. EMS helps NDUB faculties, students, and other academic officers to
manage the exam processing very easily and effectively and EMS can maintain mobility of these
activities better than conventional manual systems. EMS’s working speed is very rapid and its
database can take a massive user load at a time. (A. H. M. Saiful Islam, et al., 2021). The faculty
department will be able to gain benefits such as savings in operating cost, reduction of
paperwork, better utilization of human resources and more presentable image increasing
goodwill.

SOBRANG RRS
Recent years, Computer-Assisted Assessment (CAA) has become increasingly important in
education. This is indicated by many researches that focused on the development of computer-
based assessment tool to help assess performances of students from various disciplines (M.
Qomaruddin et al., 2014).
For students also need to be attentive and adhere to the schedule of their investigation; they
must spend time and effort physically. The traditional method is seen as ineffective and needs
to be upgraded by integrating technology.
The use of technology in the classroom has continued to grow, and with the advancement of
classroom management systems and online exam software, there are opportunities to
administer exams electronically (Stauffer et al.,2020).
The system is kept as simple as possible to avoid data entry errors. It also displays an error
notice when entering invalid data. The user does not require any formal knowledge to use this
system. Thus, all of this demonstrates that it is user-friendly. As previously described, the CpE
Questionizer can lead to an error-free, secure, dependable, and fast management system. It
might help the user focus on their other tasks rather than record keeping. As a result, it will
assist the department in making better use of their resources.
