OBJECTIVES:

- To use the total station to create a simple curve;

- Locate all of the given stations;
- To be well-versed in the whole station's normal processes; and
- To comprehend and apply the technique for laying out a simple curve.

MATERIALS:
1. Total Station
2. Tripod
3. Prism with pole
4. Marking pins
5. Tape

INTRODUCTION:
Curves are finite-radius curves positioned between intersecting straights to negotiate a change in
direction gradually. Their shape could be spherical or parabolic. Curves are available in a wide range of
shapes and sizes. One of them is the fundamental curve. A basic curve is formed by connecting two
straights with a single arc of a circle. Laying out a basic curve is the process of translating architectural
ideas from drawings to reality. It determines where site borders and other structural elements will be
located. It also determines the road's length, angle, and level. The complete structure will be positioned
and erected by the initial layout.

METHODOLOGY
1. The first thing we did was to borrow the materials needed and after doing it so, we proceed to the
division of labor in order for all of us to participate in this activity. After the division of labor, we
immediately proceeded to the field and looked for a specific location and then we set up the total
station and tripod.

2. We balanced the instrument right after setting up the tripod and full station because our group
was always having a hard time balancing the instrument manually. Unfortunately, we balanced
the instrument slower than our previous activity.

3. Right after balancing the instrument, Duclay and Artap measured the instrument’s height and the
target height. According to them, the height of the instrument is measured 1.67 meters and the
target height is 2.10 meters. Moreover, our assumed elevation was 100 meters. Tagayuna input
the acquired data on the total station and after which, she set up the BSS measuring 5 meters due
east.

4. After inputting the data for station PC,Rosario set up stake-out and input the given northing and
easting of the Station A. After putting the northing and easting of the Station A, Rosario located
the location of the first station by adjusting the instrument so that the horizontal angle difference
will be 0° 00’ 00”. Right after adjusting the instrument, Caho, De Guzman and Palattao
proceeded in the field together with the rod with prism approximately 18.90 meters away from
the instrument.

5. At first try, Rosario sight the prism and acquired a horizontal distance difference of -0.553, so, we
instructed our rodmen to move backward since they are 0.553 meters away from Station A. When
the horizontal distance was 0, then the location is now accepted. Cacho and De Guzman place the
marking pin.

6. For Stations B, C, D, E ,F ,G, and PT, we utilized the same process we used for Station A. In the
last three stations, we were challenged because we cannot see the prism, thus, we consumed most
of our time in these stations.

7. Finally, after locating all the location of stations, we checked the distance of each station.

ELEMENTS OF THE SIMPLE CURVE:
R=449.43m E=6.87m
I=19˚55’ M=6.77m
T=78.91m LC=155.44m
LCU=156.28m D=2˚33’3.61’’
OBSERVATION:
-the total station is not easy to level and sometimes will tilt over
-the total station is very sensitive
-there are small discrepancy on the horizontal distance between stations and the prism.

CONCLUSION:
Our group met its goal of laying out a simple curve with full stations, and we did so successfully
even if we don't know how to set out a basic curve. Some of the stations inaccuracies are due to human
error.
This task given to us was difficult but rewarding because we have gained new skills and
knowledge and basic understanding of the laying out a simple curve
