Word of the Day: citation
Tasks:
1. Dictate the word and students will spell the word by writing the word on their
Formative Notebook.
2. Give the correct spelling of the word.
3. Students say the word, spell the word orally, then say the word again.
4. Teacher gives the word, definition, and a sentence.
citation: a word or piece of writing taken from a written work
 All citations are taken from the 2007 edition of the text.

5. Ask students to use the word in a sentence.
6. Remind students to remember the word of the day since it is related to the lesson
of the week.

 Ask the students what they have learned from Week 4 module.
o What are context clues?
 Context clues are hints found within a sentence, paragraph, or
passage that a reader can use to understand the meanings of new
or unfamiliar words.

scrambled letters.

Referencing is when the ideas from other authors that are being used in your own writing is
acknowledged. It is important to acknowledge the sources of information and to apply the
different format in citing references to avoid plagiarism.

B. Activating Prior Knowledge


Looking back in your previous lessons you have learned that bibliography is a list of all the
sources you have used in the process of researching your work. Generally, bibliography
includes the following :
- author’s name, the title of the works, the names and locations of the companies that
published your copies of the sources, the dates of your copies were published and
the page number of your sources.

Here are the examples of commonly used format in citing varied sources:
• McGraw, Robin. (2009). What’s age got to do with it? Nashville, Tennessee: Thomas
Nelson Inc.
• Lee, Harper. To Kill a Mockingbird. New York: Harper, 1995. Print.
• Videbeck, Sheila L. Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. Fourth Edition. Philadelphia:
Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2008.

In collecting pieces of information to be used in your research paper and projects it is
essential to know how to cite different sources to avoid plagiarism.

D. Discussion of the Lesson (What is It)


- Bibliography contains different list of sources that is recommended by the writer
for future research. Referencing is when the ideas from other authors that are
being used in your own writing is acknowledged. It is important to acknowledge the
sources of information and to apply the different format in citing references to avoid
plagiarism.
- When citing reference to some work that you used in your assignment or research
paper, it is must that you should indicate where you got the work or information from
to avoid plagiarism.
- Plagiarism is using someone else’s work and making it as your own and producing
copies of it without acknowledging the writer/ giving credits to the source of the
published work.
- The following are the variety of ways on how to cite references using In-Text
Citation, APA style, MLA style, and Footnotes:

Activity 3 – FACT OR BLUFF (What’s More)
Direction: Write T if the statement is a FACT and F if it is BLUFF on
the space provided.
