What’s New

Direction: Read the short story and answer the following questions below.

It was early Saturday morning when Mr. John Carlos Jr. pedalled his bike towards Phase 2 of
Sta. Clara Village subdivision. Not long after, he saw Captain Erwin Bautista who was riding his
bicycle. Together they biked along Masipag St., then turned left heading towards Makabayan
Street. Soon they were going swiftly down Makisig Street. Capt. Bautista was little ahead of Mr.
Carlos. All of sudden, Maria Anna, a little girl, came out of nowhere running towards them.
Being on a downward slope, both Mr. Carlos and Capt.
Bautista were moving very fast. Feeling really scared at what might happen next, Mr. Carlos
stepped on his brake and tried to stray away from the little girl.
Mr. Carlos prayed hard for Ma. Anna’s safety. Capt. Bautista, who looked as nervous and
frightened as he was, came and helped him out of the mud where he fell.
“Did I hit Ma. Anna?” Mr. Carlos asked.
Capt. Bautista answered, “Thank God, you didn’t. You missed Ma.
Anna by just a few inches!”
