INTRODUCTION
Natural disasters are disasters that are caused by natural
forces .
FLOODS
Floods causes a river to overflow its banks and the water
spreads to the surrounding areas.
Causes of Floods:-

● Sudden, heavy and continuous rainfall.

● Sudden melting of large amount of snow on mountains
during summer season.
How to prepare ourselves for floods

● Leave the area as soon as possible.

 ● Keep first-aid kit, torch, matchsticks, stock of food etc.
DROUGHTS
Shortage of rainfall over a long period of time, causes
drought.
How can we prevent droughts

● By growing more trees and building dams.

● Growing drought resistant cops like millets, maize etc
EARTHQUAKES
Earthquakes are vibrations on the surface of the earth caused
due to the sudden movements under the earth’s surface.
The point where the earthquake originates is called the focus.
The point just above the focus is called epicenter. The study
of earthquakes is called seismology. The instrument used to
record the intensity and duration of an earthquake is called
seismograph.
Precaution during earthquakes

● Stay away from tall buildings and get out into the open.
● If unable to escape, stay under heavy furniture like a
table .
VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS
A volcano is an opening in the crust of the earth through
which molten rock material or magma comes out.
CYCLONES
During a cyclone, the wind blow at a very high speed and it is
accompanied by very heavy showers. The coastal areas are
usually affected by cyclones
How to prepare ourselves for cyclones

● Keep a watch on the weather forecasts on television

or radio.
● Move to a safer place before the cyclone arrives.
