Types of Graphic Organizers & Use
There are many types of graphic organizers, but we are going to focus on 5 frequently used graphic organizers. You will be building one graphic organizer of
each type listed in the chart below.
Examples of When to Use: Pros vs Cons; Before and After; Then and Now; Cause and Effect; Vocabulary Word and definition
Concept Map To identify a main topic with specific connections and without a hierarchy (aka everything is of equal importance).
Examples of When to Use:: Character profiles, Causes of Events; Brainstorming; To answer the 5 W Questions of events
Spider Concept Map Like a concept map, but with multiple ideas and sub ideas all connected.
Directions: As you can see below a T chart resembles the letter t. Read Luke 15:11-32, the Parable of the Lost Son. After
reading contrast the two brothers in the story. Down below describe at least three differences you notice about the brothers,
their actions, and/or their character. Your descriptions do not have to be in complete sentences but should have proper
spelling.
GRAPHIC ORGANIZER #2: Creating a Concept Map
Directions: Read Galatians 5:22-23. Create a concept map that outlines the fruits of the spirit. To insert in text to the graphic
organizer, click in the circles to type.

GRAPHIC ORGANIZER #4: Venn Diagrams
Directions: Venn diagrams compare and contrast two topics. In the middle, you write similarities that both topics share. In
either side you write how each topic is unique. Typically this is done with overlapping circles, but for our purposes we will also
use rectangles. First, read the book of Esther and the book of Ruth in the Bible. Then, in the Venn Diagram below, compare and
contrast the life and character of Ruth and Esther. You should have at least 5 points in each section for full credit. Double click
in the boxes to type.
GRAPHIC ORGANIZER #5: Timelines
Directions: For this graphic organizer, you will create a timeline of the major events of creation. To type in the boxes click
where it says [Text] for each box. For each day, summarize the major events of the day. To help you with this timeline, please
reference the following Scripture: Genesis 1 & Genesis 2:1-3. Please note there are two main school of thoughts in
mainstream Christianity regarding Creation. Some believe day as it is written means a 24 hour day. Others believe the original
text which includes the Hebrew word yôm would translate day into mean a long period of time. Regardless of which you
believe, the story of creation shows God is the Creator.
