AKEELAH AND THE BEE

1.) LOGORRHEA

Meaning:  excessive and often incoherent talkativeness or wordiness

Part of speech: noun

Example: Unlike our previous teacher whose logorrhea filled her lectures, this year's
teacher speaks so much more sparingly.

2.) PULCHRITUDE
Meaning:  beauty.

Part of speech: noun

Example: "the irresistible pulchritude of her friend"

Pulchritude is a descendant of the Latin adjective pulcher, which means "beautiful."

3.) BRUNNEOUS

Meaning: dark brown —used chiefly scientifically / Of a dark brown colour.

Part of speech: adjective

Example: The color of the mixture is brunneous

4.) GROVEL

Meaning:  lie or crawl abjectly on the ground with one's face downward.

Part of speech: verb

Example: "she was groveling on the floor in fear"

Meaning: (of a person or their thoughts and ideas) overimaginative and unrealistic./
existing only in the imagination or fancy.

Meaning: sleight of hand / "is the process of doing a magic trick by hand, also called
"sleight of hand."/ magic tricks performed as entertainment.

Example: My favorite prestidigitation was when he pulled the live dove out of that tiny
scarf.

7.) AMBIDEXTROUS

Meaning: (of a person) able to use the right and left hands equally well.

Part of speech: adjective

Example: "few of us are naturally ambidextrous"

8.) SOUCHONG

Meaning:  a fine black variety of China tea. /a tea made from the larger older leaves of
the shoot

Example: Of Green teas there are hardly any left, neither fine Souchong nor Congos,

9.) STAPHYLOCOCCI
Meaning: a bacterium of a genus that includes many pathogenic kinds that cause pus
formation, especially in the skin and mucous membranes.

Example: One in five had the bacteria staphylococci, which can cause serious food
poisoning if ingested.

10.) Ratatouille

Meaning: a vegetable dish consisting of onions, zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant, and


peppers, fried and stewed in oil and sometimes served cold.

Example: If your son likes tomato-based sauces, try mixing these with pasta, or serve
some ratatouille with a meal.

Meaning:  (of a person) famous and respected within a particular sphere or profession.

Example: "one of the world's most eminent statisticians"

12.) HYPERTROPHIC

Meaning:  excessive development of an organ or part specifically : increase in bulk (as


by thickening of muscle fibers) without multiplication of parts cardiac hypertrophy.

Part of speech:  adjective

Example: There was a family history of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in his son


Thomas, who died in 1994 aged 31 years.

13.) SYNECDOCHE

Meaning: a figure of speech in which a part is made to represent the whole or vice
versa
Part of speech:  noun

Example: Cleveland won by six runs (meaning “Cleveland's baseball team”).

14.) CARMAGNOLE

Meaning: a lively song popular at the time of the first French Revolution. 2 : a street
dance in a meandering course to the tune of the carmagnole.

Meaning:  a literary, artistic, musical, or architectural work that imitates the style of
previous work

Part of speech:  noun

Example: "the operetta is a pastiche of 18th century styles"

16.) SOLITERRANEOUS

Meaning: of or relating to the earth and sun

specifically : constituting a period when solar and terrestrial conditions jointly affect
weather

Example: The Hindus assert that the stream joins the other two rivers underground,
and in a subterraneous temple below the fort a little moisture trickling from the rocky
walls is pointed out as the waters of the Saraswati.

17.) ALFRESCO

Meaning:  taking place or located in the open air : OUTDOOR, OUTDOORS


Part of speech:  adjective or adverb

Example:

adverb: alfresco

(especially with reference to eating) in the open air.

"in the unlikely event of some sunshine you can even dine al fresco"

done or eaten in the open air.

"an al fresco supper"

18.) MALLOSEISMIC

Meaning: of, relating to, or being a region subject to frequent destructive earthquakes

Example:

Meaning:  the singing of psalms or similar sacred canticles, especially in public


worship.

Meaning:  The quality of being rainy or of bringing rain; rainfall. / Level of rainfall.

Meaning:  of, relating to, or containing clay or clay minerals : CLAYEY

23.) MEROVINGIAN

Meaning:  relating to the Frankish dynasty founded by Clovis and reigning in Gaul
and Germany c. 500–750.

24.) XANTHOSIS

Meaning: yellow discoloration of the skin from abnormal causes

Meaning:   a light stroking movement used in massage
