Course Name: Surveying for Construction CVEN 270
Section # L51 Group # B
Semester: Spring 2020
Introduction:
Each group will work & evaluated as a team for data collection in the specific
place, data processing and technical report. Our group used EDM and the other
group used the measuring tape in order to compare between the two different
measurement tools and understand their advantages and disadvantages. Also,
as students we were asked to do Lab, working in groups, which is to measure a
classroom in Qatar university and record each progression we do, to have a
fruitful learning experience and an effective survey.

Objectives:
To make use of the Electronic dimension measuring (EDM) and to perform the
following tasks:
1. Measuring Horizontal and Vertical surfaces the wall width and the height of
the ceiling.
2. Having a clear comprehension and identifying survey experiment to help
gather data to meet the objectives.
3. collect results to make significant decisions.

Equipment used:
In this part you have to include description about:
1- Instruments and tools used during the field procedure
2- Instruments/tools/Software programs used to prepare the work.

Procedure:
Field Procedure:
1. Free hand sketched the room.
2. Modified the Electronic Dimension Measuring (EDM) to meter unit
(0.00m)
3. Took measurements of each wall length of the room, length of one window
and two doors, height of the celling, door, and window.
4. Started to measure each wall, window, and door length from a straight
point by placing the EDM at the corner horizontally.
5. Measured the height of ceiling, window and door by placing the EDM
vertically.
6. Repeated the measurements three to four times, to be more accurate.
7. Wrote all the measurements on the free hand sketch.

Post Field Procedure:

Room Volume:
V= (9.747* 0.615*3.178) + (9.747*(0.855+1.187+1.227)*3.178)+
((9.747+0.451)*2.910*3.178) = 214.62 m^3
Equations Used:
Area = Width* Height
Example:
Area = 1.302*2.271= 2.96 m²
Volume= Floor Area* Height

Expected sources of Error:
The errors that were expected is that the EDM was not placed accurately in
0.00 meter and the walls of the room were not constructed at exactly 90
degrees.

Conclusion:
Here just look to the procedure you followed, to the results you got, to the errors that
were found and write down your conclusions and your discussion on the results and any
recommendations that can improve the quality of the results.
