Chapter 1. Introduction

1.1 Rationale
For most schools, universities, polytechnics (college), private or none and other
professional educational institutions with a growing number of students, the day to start
computerizing examination processes will be inevitable. For smaller schools it might
never be necessary, but when your teachers start spending a great deal of their time on
developing and scoring of tests, then that might be the moment of truth.

Automated Test System gives an examination management solution and software for
designing, administering, and scoring of paper-based tests.

By means of an automated test system, educational institutions can effectively manage

the whole examination process and simultaneously save time and money spend on
designing, scoring and printing of tests.

1.2 Background of the Study

E-testing is a rapidly growing area of e-assessment involving the delivery of
examinations and assessments on screen, either using local systems or web-based
systems.

An e-test is any test that replaces paper based tests with a computer screen, also referred
to as “on-screen tests”. This involves the transfer of paper tests to computer with little or
no change to their appearance on paper. Any one qualification may employ one or any
combination of methods to take e-testing to the computer screen.
E-testing offers greater flexibility allowing students to take their assessments at any time
when they are ready to be assessed and not just at a point in time dictated by examiners.

The AUTOMATED TEST is easier than the MANUAL written exam because it’s
automated and less effort and less expensive. The examinee will be asked to sign up the
 basic information given like name, age, sex and so on. The program will be automatically
encode their information in the server computer.
The program will compute the score of the student who take the exam and it will show
automatically after taking the test if he/she passed or failed the exam.
The system has its own time of how long the student consumed the time while taking the
test.
The teachers will encode the questions the school given, then student will only choose the
letter of the correct answer by clicking the button after the multiple choices. 

1.3 Purpose of the Study/Significance of the Study

The primary purpose of the study is to give assistance to the school in terms of automated
test examination.

[First of all we are doing this for our school project. The purpose of this is to gauge our
knowledge about making a system. We did a system about the automated exam to minimize the
work of the guidance (AICS) and to make the work easier. The purpose of this is to make the
school entrance examination make more simple and lessen the expenses of the school.
We would say that exams are a very costly way of measuring learning. This is because the exam
system distorts the very purpose of learning so we did an automated exam to make the students
experience the technology we are living right now. The system is very useful to all guidance
section of the school.]

1.3.1 Who will benefit of this study?

 School – the school can be recognized because of the automation process of
school’s examination.
 Teachers – there’s no need for the teacher to check and recheck their test
papers for examination. And it would make their work easier.
 Students – “performance”

1. The Automated Entrance Examination system will be implemented in order to provide
system solutions.

2. The Automated Entrance Examination system will decrease time consumption.

3. The Automated Entrance Examination will automatically compute the total score result
of the exam.
1.6 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The scope and limitations of this study is that, our system is for a specific school only.
We are not connected in other system of the school like registrar and the cashier we are
only focusing on the examinations, 

The study should be able students to take exams accurately and fast to test their skills and
knowledge.

Our system runs only in a LAN connection we are not connected on the internet or websites. We did
system just to improve the exam of the new students applying to the school
Our system Programming Language is Visual Basic.Net that only runs in VB.Net P.L. The scope of our
system is only in the school guidance. Our system has no license. It’s just a school project. ]
