Mini-Research Tittle:

The Performance of Grade 10 – Benevolence Students in Mathematics at San Roque

National High School in the Third Quarter of the School Year 2021-2022
I. Background of Study
Math is an important part of the school curriculum because it is used in both everyday life
and the study of other subjects. However, most students are said to dislike Mathematics.
Many students have academic difficulties and are uninterested in this subject. As a result,
teachers must identify which students are struggling and intervene to help them overcome
these obstacles.
II. Statement of the Problem
This mini-research will help the researcher determine the performance of the Grade 10 BDL
Section Benevolence students in the Third Quarter Summative Test in Mathematics at San
Roque National High School for S.Y. 2021-2022.
III. Significance of the study
The researcher may be able identify students who needs support and intervention in this
subject. This will reveal whether or not the students in Benevolence class are having
difficulty with mathematics.
IV. Methodology
A. Research Design
This is a quantitative research. This mini-research was conducted using document analysis
and purposive sampling.
B. Participants/ Respondents
Grade 10 – Benevolence Students at San Roque National High School for S. Y. 2021-2022
C. Data Gathering
The information was obtained from the teacher's data record.
D. Statistical Treatment
Mean: AVERAGE
Percentile rank
We create a frequency table
A frequency table is a table that list items and shows the number of times the items occur. We
represent the frequency by the English alphabet “f”
Step 1: Find the H- Highest Score and L- Lowest score
H= 58 , L= 28
Step 2: Compute for the range the difference between the highest and the lowest score.
Let R= H-L
= 58-28
= 30
Step 3: Determine the approximate number of classes.
K=1+3.322logN
K= 1 + 3.322log41
K= 6.35 or 7 classes
Step 4: Determine the class interval i.
𝑅𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒
i= 𝑘
30
i= 7

i= 4.28 or 5

Then, we have now the final table:

Classes Tally F <cf LB xm fxm
58-62 II 2 41 57.5 60 120
53-57 IIII 4 39 52.5 55 220
48-52 IIIIIIIIII 10 35 47.5 50 500
43-47 IIIIIIII 8 25 42.5 45 360
38-42 IIIIIII 7 17 37.5 40 280
33-37 IIII 4 10 32.5 35 140
28-32 IIIIII 6 6 27.5 30 180
i=5 n=41 ∑fxm= 1,800
Computation:
Mean
∑𝑓𝑥𝑚
Mean= 𝑁
1,800
Mean= 41

Mean= 43.90
The class has an average of 43.90 or 44% in Math.
Percentile Rank:
Using Percentile Rank, we are going to determine how many students got the grade
below 45. Thus, we are going to get the percentile rank of 44 which is between the
43-47 class interval.
100 (44−42.5)8
PR = [ 41 ] [ + 25]
5

PR = 2.44 × 27.4
PR = 66.86 or 67%
Therefore 67% of the class got a score ≤44.

V. Results and Findings

The Grade 10-Benevolence students has an average of 43.90
67%of the class has a score of which is equal or less than 44.
56% of the class has a score of which is equal or greater than 44.
VI.CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Based on the results, the Grade 10 Benevolence got a fair mastery level of performance for
the third quarter in Mathematics. There are only few students who will be give an
intervention.
The Math Teachers of Benevolence must prepare intervention materials for that 67% of the
class who got a score below 45.
