Presenting new Activity 1: “Mission Tracker” The teacher will group the learners into two. The Mathinik and Mathalas group.
concepts and practicing
new skills #1 This morning I received a message from Mayor Isko Moreno. You are nominated as Location Tracker. He wants you to
perform these missions found in two envelopes.

The teacher will give the envelope to the group.

Group 1:

Agent Mathinik,

“Good day. You are nominated by the “Kapisanan ng mga Location Tracker of Manila as Location Tracker of your
locality. Be informed that you are located at the center of the GPS and I’ am 8 units from your location. Your mission is
to find the center coordinate and the radius found in your tracking device.”

The teacher will let the group read the problem.

Ask the following:

What is asked in the problem?
What are the given facts?
What should you do to find the answer?

Group 2:

Agent Mathalas,

“Good day. You are nominated by the “Kapisanan ng mga Location Tracker of Manila as Location Tracker of your
locality. Be informed that your location is translated 3 units vertically and 4 units horizontally from the center of the
GPS and I’ am 5 units from your location. Your mission is to find the center coordinate and the radius found in your
tracking device.”

The teacher will let the group read the problem.

Ask the following:

What is asked in the problem?
What are the given facts?
What should you do to find the answer?

Discussing New The Center-Radius Form of the equation of the circle is in the format of (x-h)2 + (y-k)2 = r2, with the center being at the point
Concept (h, k) and the radius of r units. The values h and k indicate that the circle is translated h units horizontally and k units vertically
from the origin.
There are two cases on how to find the equation of a circle.

Case 1: The equation of a circle centered at the origin.

If the center of the circle is at the origin of the coordinate plane, the equation is x2 + y2 = r2 where r is the radius.

Case 2: The equation of a circle centered at the point (h, k).

When the center of the circle is at the point (h, k), the equation becomes (x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2.

Finding the Center-Radius Form of the Equation of a circle.

Example 1. Find the center-radius form of the equation of a circle given the center at the origin and the radius is 2 units.
Steps Figure/Expression/Equation Discussion
Step 1: Identify the center coordinates Center: (0, 0) The center coordinates and radius are
and the radius. Radius (r): 8 units given in the problem.
Step 2: Substitute the center Center-Radius Form: Be careful to include negative signs
coordinates and radius into the center- (x-h)2 + (y-k)2 = r2 when substituting the center
radius form. Substitute: coordinates.
(x – (0))2 + (y – (0))2 = (8)2
Simplify:
x2 + y2 = 64

Example 2. Write the center-radius form of the equation of a circle describes a circle with a center at (4, 2) and a radius of 4
units.
Steps Figure/Expression/Equation Discussion
Step 1: Identify the center coordinates Center: (4, 2) The center coordinates and radius are
and the radius. Radius (r): 4 units given in the problem.
Step 2: Substitute the center Center-Radius Form: Be careful to include negative signs
coordinates and radius into the center- (x-h)2 + (y-k)2 = r2 when substituting the center
radius form. Substitute: coordinates.
(x – (4))2 + (y – (2))2 = (4)2
Simplify:
(x – 4)2 + (y – 2)2 = 16

The teacher will ask clarifications from the students. Assess the students through rising of hands after asking if they understand
the lesson.

To develop higher-order thinking skills, the teacher will ask the students:

“What can you say about the process of finding the center-radius form of the equation of the circle given its center and radius?
“What did you notice about the equation of a circle when the center is at the origin, or at point (h, k)?”

Developing Activity 2: “Jeopardy Game”

mastery/Application of
Newly Learned Concepts. The teacher will group the learners into 3. Teams will choose a question form the screen associated with golden points. Each
group will be given 1 minute to answer the selected question correctly. The team with most points win!

“Presidential Questions”

Leni: Find the center-radius form of the equation of a circle describes a circle with a center at (2, 2) and a radius of 3.
Bongbong: Given: Center (4, 2), Radius: 4 units. Find the center-radius form.
Isko: The circle has radius of 7 and center at (3, 1). Find the equation of the circle.
Ping: What is the center-radius form of the given Center: (3, 5) and radius of 6?
Pacquiao: Write the center-radius form. C = (0, 0) and r = 7.

After the game the teacher will ask some questions and give follow up discussions.
Developing Mastery
(leads to formative Activity 3: Individual Activity
assessment 3)
Solve the following problem by writing the center-radius form of the equation of the circle.

1. What’s my score?
In his P.E. class, Mr. Mariano nail the Archery board in a 90° angle bar where its center is aligned 7 of the vertical axis and 4
of the horizontal axis of the angle bar. Student A landed his arrow 3 circles from the center of the archery board. Find the
center-radius form of the equation of the circle.

2. Am I Précised or Accurate?
In a firing range, Mrs. Conanan appoint 1 learner to record her performance in order to know if she is a précised or accurate
shooter. After her performance, they notice that most of the bullets hits number 7 from the center of the shooting board. Write
the center-radius form of the equation of circle.

C. Generalization Activity 4: ”Frame strategy”

In finding the center-radius form of the equation of the circle given its center and radius, I did the following steps:
First,
Second,
Third..

The teacher will call learners to read their answers.

D. Evaluation
Find the Center-Radius Form of the following. Choose only the letter of the correct answer and write it on your paper.

1. Center: (0,0), Radius: 2 units

a. x2 + y2 = 4 b. x2 + y2 = 42 c. (x – 2)2 + (y – 2)2 = x2 – y2 d. 122 – x2 = y2

2. Center: (0,0), Radius: 5 units

a. x2 + y2 = 25 b. x2 + y2 = 52 c. x2 + y2 = x2 – y2 d. x2 = y2 - 52

3. Center: (2, 3), Radius: 3 units

a. (x – 7)2 + (y - 5) 2 = 9 b. (x – 7)2 + (y - 5) 2 = 3 c. 7x2 + 5y2 = 9 d. 12x2 – 2y2 = 32

4. The bank of light is arranged over a stage for SJAHS Cultural Night. Each light illuminates a circular area on the stage. A
coordinate plane is used to arrange the lights, using the corner of stage as the origin. The equation x 2 + y2 – 144 = 0. Find the
center-radius form of the equation.
a. x2 + y2 = 122 b. x2 + y2 = 144 c. x2 + y2 = x2 – y2 d. 122 – x2 = y2

5. Mrs. Gabinete finds a circular lot for his tomato plantation. A fence is used to represent the coordinate plane where the
center of the lot is translated 7 units horizontally and 5 units vertically from the origin of the fence. The measurement of the lot
is given by 3 meters from the side to the center.
a. (x – 7)2 + (y - 5) 2 = 9 b. (x – 7)2 + (y - 5) 2 = 3 c. 7x2 + 5y2 = 9 d. 12x2 – 2y2 = 32
E. Additional activities The teacher will let the learners copy their assignment.
for application or
remediation Directions: Put each equation in center-radius form and graph the circle.
1. x2 + y2 = 81 2. 2x2 + 2y2 – 8 = 0 3. x2 + y2 – 3x + 8y = 20
