Topic : PRELIMINARY CONCEPTS AND RECENT TRENDS

Duration : 2 weeks (September 21, 2020 to October 3, 2020)

Objectives:

As you go through this section, you are expected to;

1. Explain the basic concepts and principles in educational assessment, specifically you
should be able to
a. Define and explain educational assessment
b. Discuss the assessment process
c. Determine the purpose of assessment
d. Determine the difference among assessment for, assessment as and assessment
of learning
e. Define the following terms: assessment, testing, measurement and evaluation
f. Identify and discuss the different types of assessment procedures
g. Determine the components of quality assessment
h. Identify the recent trends and focus on educational assessment
2. Discuss the role of assessment in making instructional decisions to improve teaching
and learning
3. Reflect on and discuss the applications and implications of assessment to teaching
and learning

Activity

A. Think-Pair-Share
1. Find a partner. Share ideas on the following questions with your partner.
a. Is assessment important in education? Why?
b. How should assessment be conducted?
c. How are assessment for, assessment as and assessment of different from one
another?
d. What is the role of assessment in making instructional decisions? How does it
help improve teaching and learning?
e. What are the components/features of quality assessment? Why is there a need
to consider these features when giving assessment?

B. Reflection Activity
1. Read the article “A Vignette of Assessment in Action” (pp. 18-26 of the
book/material “Rethinking Classroom Assessment with Purpose in Mind”)

2. Reflect on the material by answering the following


a. What are the ideas that struck you most?
b. How and why these ideas affect you?
C. Research Work
1. Form a group with your classmates. There should be no more than five members.
2. Look for studies and literatures/articles on recent trends and focus on educational
assessment
3. Prepare an annotated bibliography of the materials you found. There should at
least be ten entries.
4. Prepare a power point presentation of the salient points/findings discussed in the
studies and literatures/articles that are included in your annotated bibliography
