MY REFLECTION TO NATURE OF MATHEMATICS

John Mark Rescober Constantino

Bachelor of Elementary Education Major in General Education

Mathematics is an integral part of our lives. The previous statement is

undeniably correct as I immersed myself in watching three educational videos
assigned to us by our Math teacher. The first video revolved around the concept of
the so-called Golden Ratio, while the second discussed Nature by Numbers and
lastly the Mathematics in Nature. All three vital lessons have woven and imparted
to me the essential learnings and realizations that I needed to embrace
Mathematics.

As I watched the video entitled Mathematics in Nature I was astonished and

speechless at how Mathematics emanated and co-exists in our nature. From the
waves pattern of the ocean, the finely distributed dunes, spots, and stripes of
giraffes and zebras, the spiral shape of our Milky Way Galaxy, the majestic
beehives, the flowers, the transitions from day and night, the rhythmic patterns of
our heartbeats, the way we walk, etc. Those are some of the countless tantalizing
patterns that we are all unconscious of which govern our day-to-day living. On the
other hand, the next video entitled Nature by Numbers unveiled how number
patterns can be derived from our nature. It illustrated vividly how the patterns
behave in nature. Moreover, it also visualized how mathematical integration met
nature's standard of exactness. From there I am overwhelmed by how Math did
this. Furthermore, the last video, entitled The Golden Ratio captivated my
attention. This famous ratio which is equivalent to 1.618 can be seen in nature and
man-made things. Just imagine how proportionally correct everything God has
created. It shows the aesthetics, beauty, and harmony in nature. This Golden ratio
is being utilized in various fields for an instance in the Arts, Math, Engineering,
and Architecture. This only showed how vital Mathematics is in our lives.
After immersing myself in these lessons, I have come to a multitude of
realizations. By just observing the splendiferousness of nature we could come up to
a conclusion that there is a Divine Creator, which I dubbed the Engineers of all
engineers. God's almightiness is unfathomable and infinite. Our God was able to
create this intricate, harmonious, aesthetic, Earth, the universe rather. Everything
we see did not happen due to an accident or explosion as scientists believed.
Everything that was created was perfectly planned and done by our God.

Furthermore, We are just at the beginning of the exciting part of our

Mathematics journey, but Module 1 had already satisfied all of our senses and
essence as a human regarding the Nature of Mathematics. Through this, we could
able to fall in love with the uncontested hidden most superb of Mathematics.
During my elementary and High School days, my conception of mathematics is
just a set of numbers with formulas and equations, and it ends there. But this lesson
had redefined my perspective and I think it will encourage me to be part of the
Mathematics World.

To sum up, our lives will be incomplete without Mathematics. It is part of our
being, of our humankind as per se it is intertwined with nature. Let us all stand up
and go out from the box and cultivate the very essence of our nature. Let us
reconnect ourselves to it and the rest will do. Mathematics might be a complicated
discipline, but if we will cherish its nature and its essence, there could be a smooth
absorption of knowledge. As a result, we as human beings could maximize our
skills and creativity in crafting a sustainable, diverse, kaleidoscopic, and
harmonious world towards the benevolence of humankind.
