personalities; do you feel you are connected with other
countries? Why or why not?
Answer. It is undeniably true that majority of our Filipinos
have their respective social media accounts including twitter. Upon using it, we follow certain personalities locally and globally. Some of the international figures and entities we follow are the Black Pink, BTS, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, BBC News, Arirang News, etc. I feel connected with other countries and I am pretty sure that other Filipinos feel the same. It is because, the moment we see their tweets and posts on the feed, we are able to get informed of the happenings in their lives. Also, we are able to fetch news and information in their countries as far as international news companies are concerned. Furthermore, we know the top issues, topics, or trends and it because we immerse and connect ourselves in the social media platforms that allow us to be part of the global discourse. When we see that a particular international figure’s post is something melancholic, we feel the same. In line with that, we feel connected though distance is a boundary. Yet, social media platforms became an instrument that dissolve boundaries and allow us to be connected in all aspects.
What are the aspects in your life do you identify as
connected to other citizens in the world?
Answer. My mental aspect could be one of the aspects that
is connected to other global citizens. It is because, the way I process information, brainstorm ideas, craft knowledge, and perceive the world are somewhat similar to them. Today, sharing and collaboration of ideas became possible through globalization. Inter-summits, inter- business meetings, international fora are all happening aiming to provide sustainable prosperity across the globe. Another aspect could be the social, humankinds are communicative, therefore I am. TikTok and YouTube are among the video-sharing applications that bridge us with other people globally speaking. Lastly, the emotional aspect. We might differ in our race, religion, belief, language, and ideology. But we feel the same emotions. Like what happen to Turkey and Syria wherein, they were shaken by a traumatic 7.7 magnitude earthquake where almost tens of thousands were killed. The entire globe is saddened with this disaster and has sent humanitarian aid like what Mr. Marcos did.
How do you feel about being connected or disconnected
with other persons in the world?
Answer. I feel like I am alive and existing as I continue
being a global communicator and connect myself with them through social media platforms. It is an unspoken rule in our society that we need to engage internationally be it physical or virtual as it is part of today’s dynamic norms. Without the phenomena of globalization, there could be no global awareness or connection in all aspects. Therefore, no improvements and development will take place. I would be anxious if I disconnect myself in the global stage and it will be difficult to deal with my daily living. If I isolate myself majority of daily activities and happenings are integrated in the global spectrum which will cause inconveniences. Look at North Korea, they do not blend with globalization that is why they experience food insecurity as they don’t have connection outside their country for foods which are crucial to maintain the health of their people.
