1. In no more than three (3) sentences, answer the following questions:

A. Why did the Catholic Church actively oppose the passing of the Rizal

Bill?

Answer:

Catholic churches are opposed to the Rizal Bill's passage because it violates religious

freedom. They come across Rizal's writing, which contains religious criticism and tenets.

B. What provision from the Rizal Bill allowed the government to approve it that

answers the arguments provided by the Catholic Church?

Answer:

Recto argued that nationalization could be the catalyst for more vibrant nationalism

among Filipinos. He didn't take the threat seriously. "They're making too much money

that they can't afford to lose," he said. Recto also retorted that reading the hierarchy's

letter "should open the people's eyes to the true enemies of Rizal and true nationalism."
C. Did the Church's views on the study of Jose Rizal's life and works changed

over the years? Why or why not?

Answer:

I believe they have not changed their stance on studying Jose Rizal's life and works

because, despite the Rizal law, there are still Catholic churches that do not teach the

Rizal subject.

2. In no more than three (3) sentences, answer the following questions:

A. What is the Rizal Law all about?

Answer:

The Rizal Law, Republic Act No. 1425, requires all schools, colleges, and universities to

teach about Rizal's life and works. All schools should be required to keep an adequate

number of copies of Rizal's novels and biographies in their libraries, and the Board of

National Education should translate the novels into English and Tagalog for free

distribution to those who wish to read them.

B. Why do we need to study the Rizal Law?

Answer:

We should study this law in order to remember and rededicate the hardships, sacrifices,

and everything Rizal did for us in order for us to achieve freedom. The Rizal law will

enlighten us and strengthen our patriotism for our country.

C. What can you benefit from studying Jose Rizal's life and works?

It will help us students understand the situation and sufferings of our compatriots at the

hands of the Spanish. Jose Rizal's life and works will teach us to love and appreciate

our country even more.

3. Why did Rizal consider Cervantes "the best writer of art and virtue" in his

literary piece, "The Council of the Gods (El Consejo del los Dioses)?" Justify your

answer in no more than three (3) sentences.

Answer:

This literary piece was his first prize-winning piece in Manila, written and submitted in

1880 during the early days of Propaganda. This piece so enlightened the Filipinos that

they decided to launch a propaganda campaign aimed at promoting reform and equity

among Filipinos and Spaniards.

4. What drove the Filipinos to actively pursue Rizal's literary works in their quest

for national identity? Justify your answer in no more than three (3) sentences.

Answer:

By addressing national issues in theaters, Filipinos have the opportunity to choose

issues in their society and teach them how to understand themselves more fully,

appreciate what has been taken for granted and express the unexpressed.
