The Catholic Church actively oppose the passing of the Rizal Bill due to the anti

critical themes. It claims that it would violate freedom of conscience and religion. In

addition, the Church wanted to erase that shameful part of our Philippine history

where its priests were more engrossed with temporal power than everlasting life and

the teachings of Christ.
