1. PERSONAL GOALS AND GROUP OUTCOMES

SACE three day program focused on skill development and reflection in line with performance
standards.

2. LOGISTICS

Vehicles: School van, hire van + gear trailer. 1 x 4wd hire for vehicle support. School ute on
standby.

Wednesday 8 June
Meet at 7.30am
Depart 8am
Drive to Fishery Beach for student drop off
Students walk along Heysen trail in two separate groups, guided by bushwalking instructors (Bec &
Lauren)
Camp at Cobbler Hill Campground

Thursday 9
Students bushwalk from Cobbler Hill Campground, along Heysen trail to Yapari Ngawanthi
Campground

Friday 10
Students swap backpacks for bikes or surf board
Mountain biking in Kuitpo Forest
Surfing at Middleton – Day street Second Car Park

Students get shuttled in vans to location.

Depart Goolwa/Kuitpo
Arrive back at school 4pm

Students will be dismissed when gear has been returned and vehicles cleaned

Night 2: Yapari Ngawanthi Campground (New bush campsite, North of Tapanappa)
Night 3: Natunyuru Ngawanthi Campground (Newland Head Conservation Park)

5. GROUP EQUIPMENT

School supplied gear


q All student camping specific gear supplied by the School.
q School supplied staff gear – please check the packing list and let Mr Polkinghorne know
your school supplied equipment requirements. You will receive this the week before camp.
q Please return all gear clean and in good order. Report any issues/breakages
q Please take a stocked medical kit (school supplied) with you when possible to administer
minor first aid.

7. FOOD AND MENU PLAN

q Water jerry cans to be dropped at each campsite

8. GENERAL

Students in tents 1 or 2 person – sleep head to toe


Students cook in 1 or 2 person groups
Nut free – 1 x anaphylactic student

A few key things to remember:

• Appropriate clothing (warm weather and sunsmart)


• Food – assessed meal will be Wednesday night
• Reduce packaging and weight where possible – need to demonstrate how
• Ensure safety is the first priority.
• Use common sense and consultation with the group in decision making.
• Personal wellbeing – ensure you are organised and comfortable first, to provide the best
possible care and attention to each other.

9. SCHOOL STAFF ROLE

• All School staff to facilitate the outcomes and objectives stated for the program. Staff will
facilitate the group and ensure they are on call in the event of an emergency
• Ensure proper instruction, manage the group when necessary and organise personal gear
in a timely manner.
• Please ensure you have all minimum gear requirements for the trip.
• Important to communicate any information about particular students whether it is medical,
behavioural/ attitudinal, social problems. Please contact the All Hours Contact if any issues
arise. If this occurs, record the event in a suitable location.

10. EMERGENCY CONTACT AND PROCEDURES

Emergency Procedures;
• School staff responsible for initiating emergency response by contacting support using
satellite phone.
• Please contact AHC if a serious or lift threatening injury occurs.
• Access to exit points on expedition – defined by student route cards
• Vehicles access at escape route locations
• School vehicle at finish point
• Phone coverage – generally patchy within Deep Creek, satellite phone as back up.
• Plans for inclement weather (wind/rain/thunderstorms) – school staff to decide, please
discuss options with them.

Action checklist: Danger, MOI*, BSI*, number of patients, patient impression.


Primary survey: Response, Airway, Breathing Circulation, Disability & Exposure.
Shock Management: sign & symptoms, treat, manage and monitor.
Secondary Survey: head to toe, vital signs, medical history.
Patient Care and monitoring: write everything down

• If a student’s behaviour is deemed to be
unsafe and puts themselves or others at

program or where there is a risk of
