Local News:

Vaccinating those in the ages between 18 and 20 has started off this week in school
premises. The decision was made during the Covid-19 Committee meeting held virtually
this morning headed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa . Provincial and divisional
directors of health were also present at the meeting. The progress of Sri Lankan’s
vaccination drive and future cause of action to that front has also been discussed at
length during today’s meeting. Special attention had also been given during the meeting
to conclude vaccinating those in the ages between 18 and 20 over the next 2 weeks.

Sri Lanka has now been the first South Asian Nation to approve the Fizzer Covid 19
vaccine as the country has been battling the third wave of Corona Virus granted an
emergency use approval to the vaccine developed by the U.S. firms. The government
has ordered 5 Million Fizzer doses as the medical authorities decided to give a nod to
Fizzer after a study in Isreal indicated that two doses of the Fizzer biotic vaccine show
more than 95% efficiency. The fizzer also got a huge vote of endorsement after Canada
approved the vaccine for children and accordingly Si Lanka will proceed with the
decision to vaccinate those below age 20 with the Fizzer vaccine.

Foreign News:

A Sri Lankan national, who had been under surveillance by New Zealand police, for his
beliefs in extremist, Islamic State ideologies, was shot today after going on a Stabbing
rampage that left at least 6 people injured. The incident took place at a super market in
Auckland, when the suspect had picked a knife from a cabinet display and attacked the
other shoppers.

The incident has been dubbed as a violent terrorist attack by New Zealand’s Prime
Minister Jacinda Arden who revealed that the Sri Lankan emigrant who arrived at the
country in 2011, had just 5 years later become a person of national security interest.
Subsequently, the yet to be identified suspect was placed on a terror watch list, and was
placed under round the clock surveillance, and was under constant monitoring by
police, and the special tactics group. As such police surveillance teams that were
monitoring him, were able to rush in and neutralize the suspect, thereby preventing
further damage.

Speaking at a media briefing today premiere, Jacinda Arden emphasized, that it is the
individual that must be hold responsible for the attacks and not a faith culture or
ethnicity.
