Topic: Addition and Subtraction of Polynomials


I. OBJETIVES
A. Content standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of algebraic expressions, the properties
of real numbers as applied in linear equations, and inequalities in one variable.

B. Performance Standard
The learner is able to model situations using oral, written, graphical, and algebraic methods in
solving problems involving algebraic expressions, linear equations, and inequalities in one
variable.

C. Learning Competencies
Adds and subtracts polynomials.

D. Objectives:
At the end of the topic the student are expected to:
 Illustrate addition and subtraction of polynomials using a variety of examples.
 Solve problems on addition and subtraction of polynomials in a variety of
strategies
 Appreciate the importance of adding and subtracting polynomials through
modeling situations using oral, written, graphical, and algebraic methods.

Give a story that relates to the topic and provide questions to be answered by the students.
Guide question: If Ana has 4 apples and 3 oranges while Jake have 4 Oranges and 5 apples with 1
bad. How will you put all this in a mathematical equation using algebraic equation?

Activity
The discussion will start by providing a number problem related to the topic, and the
students will answer about the following questions..

Analysis
The teacher will ask the following questions regarding to the activity:

1. What have you observe in the activity?
2. Can you identify what are the operations being used in the activity?
3. In your own understanding what would be our topic for today’s discussion?

Abstraction
The teacher will provide the concept of the topic by providing the definitions of polynomials,
definitions of additions and subtractions of polynomials, differentiating the two operations,
providing the laws and properties of the two operations, and providing examples.

Application
The teacher will let the students to answer questions through interactions. The teacher will
accept if there is volunteering and call one by one if there is no one volunteering and provide
the answer after the try.

Group activity
