Museum Mpu Purwa and Tourism Department of Kota Malang

This chapter describes the institution where I have conducted my internship. The
information includes short profile, the functions, Tourism Department of Kota Malang, the
organizational structure of of Tourism Department of Kota Malang.

Short Profile of Museum Mpu Purwa

Museum Mpu Purwa was officially opened for public on May 2, 2004 and located in
Perumahan Griyashanta Jalan Soekarno Hatta, Lowokwaru District, Malang. Initially this
museum was Balai Penyelamatan Benda Purbakala (Rescue Center for Antiquities), but later
turned into a museum. The construction of the Mpu Purwa Museum building was in 2014
with a program of assistance from the Ministry of Education and Culture, where previously
the building was a former building of Mojolangu Elementary Public School 02. Museum
Mpu Purwa was officially established 2017.

The museum is fully equipped with mini movie room, QR code, LCD, and attractive
learning area and students friendly.There are some public facilities inside museum such as
beautiful parks, a large parking lot, toilets, security posts and CCTV in every corner in the
museum. Mpu Purwa Museum has a modern installation design so it looks comfortable and
clean.

The Mpu Purwa Museum currently has 136 collections of historical objects from
94 statues, 3 inscriptions, 2 lotus buds, 5 lingga and yoni, 3 prehistoric relics, 13 structures of
temple buildings, 2 pipisan, 3 anthropological relics, 4 red batah, and many others. The
collection of historical objects was found around Malang and East Java. Most of the
collections were from 5 Hindu-Buddhist Kingdoms around Malang, they were Kerajaan
Kanjuruhan, Kerajaan Mataram Kuno, Kerajaan Kadiri, Kerajaan Singosari and Kerajaan
Majapahit. Mpu Purwa Museum has 6 main historical object they were Makara, Brahma
Catur Muka statue, Shiva Mahaguru / Agastya statue, Singa Stamba, Ganesha Tikus Statue,
and Bodhys Statue of Awalokiteswara.

Tourism Department of Kota Malang

Tourism Deparment of Kota Malang was established on 2018 and moved to the
same location as the museum. The main duty of Tourism Department is to maintain every
occations dealing with cultural and tourism affairs in the downtown of Kota Malang.
Museum Mpu Purwa is maintened by Tourist Department.

The functions of Museum Mpu Purwa

1. Collecting and securing historical objects.

2. Conservating and preservating historical objects.
3. A place for learning and research of cultural heritage.
