Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, Let me introduce myself first, Im Michaela Lising

and I will be presenting the cable structures where we can discuss a little bit of
information about cable structure,

CABLE
- Structural cables are made of a series of
small strands twisted or bound together to
form a much larger cable. Steel cables are
either spiral strand, where circular rods
are twisted together and "glued" using a
polymer, or locked coil strand, where
individual interlocking steel strands form
the cable.

Cable which are glued or twisted are giving the structure enough strength to resist some
vibration to a certain object

A cable is a flexible structural component that offers no resistance when compressed or

bent in a curved shape. Technically we can say cable has zero bending rigidity.

A cable is the main component of cable supported bridge or suspended roof structures
that are classified as follows:

SUSPENSION TYPE CABLES

- The main forces in a suspension bridge of any type are tension in the cables and
compression in the pillars. This not only adds strength but improves reliability.

A typical suspension bridge is a continuous girder suspended by suspension cables,

which pass through the main towers with the aid of a special structure known as a
saddle, and end on big anchorages that hold them.

shows the essential structural members and elements of typical, including tower,
hanger, main girder, and the anchorage.

The main forces in a suspension bridge are tension in the cables and compression in the
towers. The deck, which is usually a truss or a box girder, is connected to the
suspension cables by vertical suspender cables or rods, called hangers, which are also in
tension.

The weight is transferred by the cables to the towers, which in turn transfer the weight
to the anchorages on both ends of the bridge, then finally to the ground.

STAYED TYPE CABLES

- The towers are the primary load-bearing structures which transmit the bridge
loads to the ground.
- Five of the ten longest cable-stayed bridges in the world have been built across
the world’s third-longest river, the Yangtze, which is a crucial waterway for the
economic development of China.
- Road-Traffic Technology lists the top ten longest cable-stayed bridges in the world,
based on their main span length.
NOTE FOR REPORTER: cable-stayed bridge, bridge form in which the weight of the deck
is supported by a number of nearly straight diagonal cables in tension running directly to
one or more vertical towers. The towers transfer the cable forces to the foundations
through vertical compression. The tensile forces in the cables also put the deck into
horizontal compression.

That’s all for my task, next is Mr. Castro will continue to discuss the remaining topic
about cables in tensile structure,

But before that, I would like to remind everyone that after the cables structure, we will
have a super short guess game and we will choose or whoever volunteer to answer will
receive a token as our appreciation for your participation,

so let’s welcome our next reporter, kuya Aaron Castro…
