Information Sheet
(Parts of Branding and
Packaging)

Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
1. Identify the parts of branding and packaging.

The construction of a product's exterior is referred to as product package

design. Packaging, like any good design, tells a story. This includes material and
shape choices, as well as graphics, colors, and fonts used on wrapping, a box, a
can, a bottle, or any other container. It's also a sensory experience, with sight,
touch, and sound all playing a part. All of these data aid in determining what the
enclosed product is for, how it should be used, who should use it, and, perhaps
most significantly, whether or not we should purchase it.

Before creating a product's packaging, you need to know the answers to

three questions:
1. What exactly is the item?
2. Who is the target market for the product?
3. What methods are customers using to purchase the product?

BRANDING AND PACKAGING

1. Brand - is an intangible marketing or commercial idea that aids in the
identification of a firm, product, or person. A product might be stand-alone, or it
can represent an established brand, in which case the packaging must reflect
that brand's aesthetic.
2. Packaging - The material that surrounds a consumer item that serves to
confine, identify, define, protect, exhibit, promote, and otherwise market and keep
the product clean. It's worth noting that, depending on the sector, some items
may be required to be included on the box for legal reasons.

BRAND

1. COLORS
It relates to the product's efficiency and dependability.
The more professional, serious, and conservative the blue
packaging is, the more professional, serious, and
conservative the product is judged to be. The goods will be seen as softer and more
imaginative if the blue package is lighter.

2. FONTS
The fundamental element that conveys to the audience the
brand name, product name, functions, and benefits. Each
company has its own personality, which is reflected in the
style of typeface it uses.

3. LOGO
uniquely designed for that particular product The designer
concentrates on the product's most important qualities and
its utility to customers. All of these characteristics, as well
as the company's brand image, should be reflected in a
product logo design. When a company grows, it adds a
variety of products to its portfolio.

PACKAGING

1. WRITTEN COPY
This might be anything from the product's name to a
description to words that entice someone to buy.

2. IMAGERY
It contributes to the product's excitement. It gives the consumer an impression of
what the product is without requiring them to open it, which is great when the
packaging does not feature a transparent window.

3. REQUIRED MARKS
A barcode, nutrition information, affiliation markings,
and other features may be necessary depending on the
product or sector.

4. CONTENT
Some products, such as groceries and cosmetics,
require supplementary information to be printed on
distinct batches.

Information Sheet 3.1-2

(Budget and Packaging)

Learning Objectives:

After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:

1. Identify the categories in budgeting and layers of packaging

Another item to consider while beginning the style journey is materials. It does not
need to make any decisions right now, but it would want to begin noticing the
various options.
Packaging design budgets break down into two categories:

1. One-time costs

2. Per-item cost

BUDGET
ONE-TIME COST
Include items like paying for the original design work, acquiring a stamp, and
printing plate setup, all of which should be paid for up front and only once.

PER-ITEM COST
are typically used to pay for materials and labor. Each box will cost a particular
amount, as will the tissue paper used to stuff it and the tape used to seal it, and
you will either have to pay someone or do it yourself to put the product into the
box.

Once the information is gathered, it's finally time for the fun part: the design
process! Do you recall how the client requested that the box design tell a story?

Outer packaging, inner packaging, and product packaging are the three "layers" of
product packaging. One or all of these may be required by the product.

OUTER PACKAGING
It's what keeps the product protected from the elements.
This could be the box in which the item is shipped or the
shopping bag in which the item is placed at the store.

INNER PACKAGING
is responsible for keeping the product safely enclosed in
the outer container. This could be packing peanuts or
tissue paper to prevent items from being scuffed or
jostled.

PRODUCT PACKAGING
When most people think of packaging, they think of the
box that a toy comes in, a bottle with a label, a garment
tag, or a candy bar wrapper.

GRAPHIC DESIGN AND PACKAGING

is how the brand's design is mirrored in product boxes;
the design concept must catch a customer's attention
while also providing product information.

PHYSICAL PACKAGING
is the product package's physical design constraints.
Examine the shapes, materials, and other characteristics of
their packaging design and see if you can work within
those constraints.

MARKETING DESIGN
is the combination of form, structure, materials, color,
images, typography, and regulatory information with
auxiliary design aspects to create a marketing-ready
product.

POLYETHYLENE PACKAGING
a form of tough, water-resistant plastic coating that's
perfect for shipping. Polyethylene bags can be printed in
the same way as conventional cardboard can. Brands who seek to reduce their raw
material use are increasingly using poly mailers.

GLASS AND ALUMINIUM PACKAGING

Food and beverage packaging is a frequent usage for
this material. Glass, despite being fully non-
biodegradable, may be recycled rather cheaply because
it is free of plastics and petroleum-based components.

INNOVATIVE PACKAGING
Innovative product boxes assist show off the brand's
inventiveness and originality, whether it's product
packaging or sustainable packaging materials.

MINIMALISTIC PACKAGING
Minimalism is a Scandinavian and Japanese design
approach that favors basic forms where nothing can
be reduced farther without sacrificing utility.

VINTAGE-STYLE PACKAGING
Part of this image conveys the trust that comes with
decades of experience and selling tried-and-true, high-
end, and well-liked products. Chocolate, tea, and
coffee, for example, are frequent uses of the vintage
style, typically with a current, contemporary twist.

PATTERN-BASED PACKAGING
It's easy to understand how applying it on packaging could be helpful because it
can make the brain feel attached to something for no apparent reason.

CULTURAL-INSPIRED PACKAGING
Using shapes, patterns, and iconography associated with a specific region's culture
or people group is a terrific approach to appeal to that niche while keeping
culturally conscious and respectful.

CONTEMPORARY DESIGN PACKAGING

Contemporary is a difficult term to define, but in its most basic form, it refers to a
current trend or fashion. One surface is intricate and ornate, whereas the others
are much simpler. Contrasting colors are utilized to mark the goods and convey
information on the crowded surface.

designer for a standard-sized box or label.

FILE-FORMAT REQUIREMENTS
A print-ready file (typically an Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PDF, or EPS should be
