BY-MUHAMMAD AYAN KALEEM YEAR 10-D 21344

PRACTICAL INVESTIGATION -1
AIM
-To compare the viscosity of 3 different liquids.
-To understand how the mass affect the motion of a
marble ball in a viscous liquid.

Hypothesis:- _Honey_ is more viscous than the other

two liquids.
When mass increases time taken by the marble ball
_Decreases_.

Honey 2.65s 2.78s 2.72s

Mass of Marble ball = 6.46g

Temperature of the liquids = 25°C

HOW TEMPERATURE AFFECTS THE
VISCOSITY OF LIQUID.

• Viscosity of a liquid is inversely proportional to temperature as, temperature

increases the viscosity of the liquid decreases because upon heating, liquids flow
more easily and the liquids tend to expand.

• In the graph as the temperature steadily increases the resistance of the liquid
decreases making the marble ball fall much faster to the surface of the tube in
the different liquids.
THE EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON VISCOSITY
USING KINETIC MODEL OF MATTERS.

• In liquids, the main cause of viscosity is cohesion between the

molecules.

• With the increase in temperature, this cohesive force decreases as

the energy of particles become more and weaken the
intermolecular forces of the particles, hence the movement of
particles become easy. And viscosity of liquids decreases with
increase in temperature.
RELATION OF VISCOSITY TO THE TERMINAL
VELOCITY ATTAINED BY THE MARBLE BALL.

• Viscosity is also inversely proportional to velocity because, if viscosity

increases the velocity of the marble ball decreases.

• The more viscous a liquid, the more the restraining force will be
exerted on the falling object, thus reducing its terminal velocity into
a decreasing acceleration and it will slow down.

• Honey has more viscosity than oil so, the marble ball falls much
slower in honey than in oil.
