I. Reflect on the following questions. Answer in no more than 5 sentences each.

GENDER AND EDUCATION

A. Should gender be a deciding factor for people to access education?
- No, gender must not be a deciding factor for people to access education because
education must be for everyone. People has various skills and abilities that would
complement each other if given the chance to have an equal opportunity of education.
Same goes with gender, which helps people enhance what’s in them by how teachers
educate them in a best way.

B. Are there specific needs that women, men, and LGBTQ+ have in school? If yes, what are those
needs?
- Yes, there’s a specific needs that women, men, and LGBTQ+ have in school. For women,
some basic needs for us are: having our own restroom, the availability of napkins in the
restrooms because there are times we don’t know when our menstruation is, security
because holdups are rampant for women, etc. For men, their needs may include having
their own bathroom, personalized kit, and their other needs. For LGBTQ+, their most
specific needs is respect because they are mostly being discriminated by both genders.

C. How do you think the educational system in the Philippines is addressing these gender needs?
- I think the educational system in the Philippines is addressing these gender needs by
providing those physical needs such as napkins, different restrooms for males and
females, having a school security guard, etc. However, I believe that the needs for
LGBTQ+ is the one less addressed because the school cannot manipulate the thinking of
the students to give respect to people regardless of their preferred gender. I believe that
their needs is more than just in physical aspect but a respect for them.

GENDER AND MENTAL HEALTH

A. What are the school programs for mental health and gender-related issues?
- School programs for mental health and gender-related issues includes orientation or
webinar which focuess on promoting mental wellness, preventing mental health
problems, and providing treatment. Some specific topic may include discrimination,
stereotyping, LGBT community, etc. After discussion these topics, the speaker will
suggest ways on how to overcome these issues and be not part of the wrongdoer.

B. How do you think will these programs help you as an adolescent?

- These programs will help me as an adolescent by helping me be aware of what’s
happening involving gender-related issues and how it has affect our mental wellness. By
having these awareness, I will be able to know how to address these concerns and respect
people regardless of their gender identity. Also, I would have the power to teach other
people especially children to be respectful and not engaged in any undesirable behaviour.

C. Are there other forms of support you think you need in terms of mental health and gender issues?
What are these?
- The other forms of support I think we need in terms of mental health and gender issues is
the support of our loved ones, may it be from friends, families, or even from strangers.
These support from them would ease the feeling of burden or negativity that we felt that
helps us be confident in we are and what we want in life.
