Scott?

Scott: It doesn’t really matter to me. I’m not a picky eater. Just choose a place
that’s cheap.

Neil: Do you want to go to Biggie Burgers? It’s one of my favorites. It’s really

sodas. Their portions are large, so you won’t leave there hungry.

Scott: Really? Okay, that sounds good. Let’s go there. I’m dying to eat
something.

Neil: Alright. I’m not sure what I’m going to order yet. Do you know what you
are going to order?

Scott: I’m going to order a hamburger with ketchup and a chocolate milkshake.

Advanced: Let’s Talk
Carol: Hey, Lynne. What time are we going to the mall? I’m asking because I have
something to do later this evening, and I don’t want to be late.

Lynne: That’s a good question. I thought we could leave around four o’clock. Is that
alright with you, or is that too late? I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you.

Carol: Yes, four o’clock sounds fine. It’s not too late at all. I have to be at my cousin’s
house by 7:30. We should have plenty of time. Did you want to grab a bite to
eat while we’re there?

Lynne: Yes, that sounds great. I have been craving pizza like crazy lately. What about
you, Carol? What do you feel like eating?

Carol: I want some Chinese food. I’ll probably get some orange chicken and an egg
roll or two. I’m feeling hungry just thinking about it.

Lynne: Yum! Chinese food sounds good right now. I love mall food. Too bad it’s not
good for you.

Carol: I know. I could eat it everyday. I was eating out about five times a week last
year, and I gained almost 10 pounds. So, this is going to be a special treat for
me.

Lynne: Are you kidding me? I would never have guessed that. You look exactly the
same as you always have. I think you might be imagining things.

Advanced: Reading Comprehension

Fast food is cheap, convenient, filling, and generally tastes good.

Unfortunately, it’s not healthy. A single fast-food meal can contain
enough calories for an entire day. Eating fast food on a regular basis can
lead to a host of different health problems, both physical and
psychological.

Still, the temptation can often be hard to resist. Below are three tips to
help you choose healthier foods when eating at fast-food restaurants.

Make careful menu selections — Dishes labeled deep-fried, batter-

dipped, breaded, creamy, and crispy are usually high in calories,
unhealthy fats, or sodium. Try to avoid these at all costs.

Drink water with your meal — Soda is a huge source of hidden

calories. Try drinking water with a little lemon.

Eat mindfully — Pay attention to what you eat, and savor each bite.
Chew your food thoroughly and avoid eating on the run.
