Class Objectives
- To learn scanning and skimming skills
- To brainstorm the content by looking at title and coming up with words that relate to the
title or the topic
- To learn how to catch the main idea of the passage (e.g. look at the first paragraph, topic
sentence)
- To learn how to look for specific information (e.g. look for reference words, paraphrased
words
- To learn how to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words

Before the lesson


- Students need to prepare a printed advertisement or video clip in the class, and prepare a
little presentation explaining why they will choose the ad. and telling the class whether
there are misleading information there

- To learn how to capture the main idea of a speech with complex structure
- To learn some discussion skills (what to say after grabbing the chance to be the first and
what to say when the others are opposing to them)
