Model of Social Responsibility

Businesses must not concentrate on profit for success; as part of business survival,
the business must be socially responsible to their society as one of the business’
obligations.

• Philanthropic Model- Most large companies aligned with philanthropic

efforts; they bring aid to a group of people to improve their quality of life.
They offer programs supporting community education, health/human
service, culture, art, and civic. These companies believe that every success
requires not just innovation but helping a group of people. It will help
prepare the group of people to be ready and capable of something that the
companies support. Example: A local micro-finance institution in the City
of Puerto Princesa gives training on livelihood programs like food
processing to be one of the income sources in the community.

3
• Environmental Model- It is concerned with global or local ecological
issues and problems. It can be global issues on climate change or local
concern on the toxic chemical spill. To diminish environmental matters,
companies associate themselves by taking action such as reduction of the
carbon footprint. Even though large companies get most of the attention
in their environmental dedications, the small companies also have
numerous ways to practice environmental concerns such as simple waste
segregation and minimizing the use of airconditioning.

• Workplace Diversity Model- Administrators of businesses must realize

that diversity of the workplace is beneficial for everyone, including working
as a team. However, the company policies must be equal to all employees,
including employees at the highest-level positions. Companies must
address any complaints and violations by reviewing their diversity policies
and protocols. It will create a good environment for the company, and it
can help build a positive company culture that will result in good morale
and high productivity. Example: Despite culture or sexual orientation,
every employee has the same privileges to apply for any position in the
company.

• Supporting Volunteer Effort Model- It assists the local communities and

charities. Companies that have smart leaders recognize and support
employees that are being productively involved in the community. It will
result in a good impact on the company. The different employees of the
companies can choose which volunteer effort they do best. It will help the
local community together with the company. Example: The employees of
a small company in the City of Puerto Princesa have the privileges to
choose what volunteer effort in the community they will join.
