CLIMATE

Connecticut has humid subtropical climate.

Connecticut has all four seasons summer, winter, spring, fall.

• The Greenhouse House, was built for the Ellsworth
family in 1976.

• Among the numerous clients the architect had asked,

"What do you want to enclose yourself with?" ,The most
clearly the unambiguous response of Sally Ellsworth,
who answered "plants."

• greenhouse house, is designed not for people but for

plants.

• This means orientation for the sun, earthen oors,

stonework that interior vines can climb on, and most
important, a exible, warm air duct system that controls
a temperature and humidity suited, not to humans, but
to plants.

• The living-and dining rooms are laid out within this

greenhouse, the "spatial symbol" of this house.

• The central glass space prompts the ‘dialogue of inside

and outside .

• Greenhouse House encapsulates the relatedness of man

to nature, a symbiotic living together of organisms of low
or high order in a union somehow expected of us in this 2GI18AT02
unique and blessed biosphere.   -  John M Johansen

Centralized organization
• A very simple arrangement of
spaces around a central courtyard,
under a great glass canopy.
• Stable, concentrated composition
that consists of a number of
secondary spaces grouped around a
large, dominant, central space
• The central courtyard space is large
in size to gather a number of
secondary spaces.
• The secondary spaces are different
in size in order to respond to
individual requirements of function
• The arrangement of secondary
spaces around central courtyard
allow the form of centralized
organization to respond to the
environmental conditions of the site
