a renewable energy using waste product such as crab shells to a chafing fuel.
It will be helpful in this time especially with the increasing prices of fuel
particularly the liquefied petroleum and also in reducing organic waste in our
current environment. This research proposed making Calcium acetate by
soaking Calcium carbonate to acid solution. The proposal also includes using
the residue crushed crab shells and extract its left-over chitin by
deproteinization to make biodegradable plastics, surgical threads, food
additives, or in paper manufacturing that are verified studies. The product can
be stored in a container for travelling or heating food purposes. This may also
provide additional source of income with a proper partnership with the local
government and other stake holders.
(6.1) RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE

The proposed project aims to reduce organic waste production of the

country. Additionally, to provide and create a new and innovative source of
fuel.
In the Philippines, more than two hundred fifty thousand (250,000)
metric tons of shell, scales, and carapace wastes are produced. Investing in
Crab shell wastes as the raw materials in producing fuel which is cost-efficient
and environmentally friendly.
The product is not difficult to make and does not require any
unattainable materials to complete. All properties of Crab shells will be utilized.
The left-over residues are still beneficial, for it contains Protein and Chitin,
which is high in demand for making biodegradable plastics, surgical threads,
and other useful products.
The research proposal proves to be a low-cost project beneficial to the
environment and community. So far, as to foresee, this will produce income
generating opportunities and a potential livelihood with a proper
communication and partnership with the local government.
(8) METHODOLOGY

Materials:
The patented process used crab shells as the main component to soak
up Acetic acid that will cause a chemical reaction that produces Carbon
dioxide. The main components in crab shells are chitin, protein, and Calcium
carbonate. They were approximately 30%, 16%, and 55% as with respectively,

indicating the largest proportion of the red crab shells was the Calcium
carbonate, that will be the vital element for the chafing fuel. Vinegar, which is
about 4% Acidic acid to dissolve the Calcium carbonate, to evaporate and
release Carbon dioxide. Ethyl alcohol for our Sol-gel method that leads to
formation of high quality, clear, and uniform particles with desirable spherical
morphology up to 170mn in constant temperature. Steel can as container with
releasable plug lid sizes based on burn times and how long it will last.

Methods:
This research works by using crab shell as an alternative in eggshell to
fire gel fuel research by journal of Asian Ceramic Societies. We will conduct a
chemical reaction by soaking crab shells in vinegar (which is about 4% acetic
acid) that dissolves the Calcium carbonate shell. The Acetic acid reacts with
the Calcium carbonate in the crab shell and releases Carbon dioxide gas that
will see as bubbles in the shell. Then, filtrate the solution which is Calcium
acetate that was filtered. Next, proceed with the Sol-gel solution. To solidify the
solution by adding ethyl alcohol to the filtrate. Calcium acetate interacts with
the alcohol. In few seconds, gel forms Calcium acetate solvate. A fire gel fuel
capable of at least boiling water and will be stored in a steel can container to
avoid evaporation.

Outline Description:
Chafing fuel made from crab shell wastes is a renewable source of energy
and budget friendly to produce. It can be used for different purposes such as
heating food and cooking instant foods while travelling or even camping. Crab
shell wastes are often dumped in the garbage or at the landfills. It does not
have any value at all which makes it a good raw material for making chafing
fuel. After dissolving Calcium carbonate, it still contains protein and chitin
that can still be used to make useful products such as biodegradable plastics,
surgical threads, food additives, or in paper manufacturing. This proposal is a
very beneficial investment and can be a possible source of income.

Conceptual Framework:
The Input-Process-Output (IPO) Diagram consists of three (3) parts that
indicates the flow of the project proposal. First, for the Input Phase,
researching the structure, formula, and chemical reactions of each
