Chemical Reactions
that affects life and
the environment
CARAS, NICOLE SHANE L.
HYDROLYSIS
 WHAT IS THE CHEMICAL EQUATION?
The chemical equation of Hydrolysis is AB + HOH ⇌ AH + BOH where a
compound is represented by the formula AB in which A and B are atoms or
groups and water is represented by the formula HOH.

 WHERE THIS CHEMICAL REACION CAN BE SEEN?

The hydrolysis occurs in our DIGESTIVE TRACK.

 WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS CHEMICAL REACTION?

It is an important part of how our body breaks down food into its nutritional
components for us to eat and use as well as digest.

 HOW IT RELATES TO THE LAYMEN/ORDINARY PEOPLE?

Hydrolysis occurs both within the body and in its surroundings. The chemical
reactions of hydrolysis are just a part of their daily lives. The hydrolysis process
and its various types does not presume people's intelligence as it is only natural
for everyone to experience at least one of these chemical reactions.
CHEUNG, MAXIME S.

NEUTRALIZATION REACTION
 WHAT IS THE CHEMICAL EQUATION?
The chemical equation of neutralization is NaOH + HCl → H2O and NaCl.

 WHERE THIS CHEMICAL REACION CAN BE SEEN?

Neutralization can be seen in our stomach that contains hydrochloric acid
and too much of this causes indigestion.

 WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS CHEMICAL REACTION?

Neutralization reaction is one of the reaction that’s very important for all
of us, because it happens in any of our bodily fluids and in the soils in which
we grow our food, that also occurs when an acid reacts with a base.

 HOW IT RELATES TO THE LAYMEN/ORDINARY PEOPLE?

The neutralization reactions can be related to our daily life example
situations: when we got an ant - bite, where we get sting of an ant release
'methanoic acid' or 'formic acid' in our body. These acids cause burning
sensation and irritation. This issue can be fixed by rubbing moist baking
soda because moist baking soda is basic in nature.
MENDIOLA, JOY ALLYSSA B.
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
 WHAT IS THE CHEMICAL EQUATION?
The chemical equation of photosynthesis is 6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2.

 WHERE THIS CHEMICAL REACION CAN BE SEEN?

Photosynthesis is usually occurs in CHLOROPLASTS.

 WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS CHEMICAL REACTION?

Photosynthesis provides the source of energy and considered as the fundamental life
process. Also, almost all the oxygen in the atmosphere is due to the process of
photosynthesis.

 HOW IT RELATES TO THE LAYMEN/ORDINARY PEOPLE?

Most of the oxygen used by humans came from the process called photosynthesis.
We, humans, release carbon dioxide through the process called respiration. This carbon
dioxide will be absorbed by the plants, which creates life.
MONDARES, EUGENIO JR. A.

REDOX REACTION
 WHAT IS THE CHEMICAL EQUATION?
Redox reaction is a type of chemical reaction that involves a transfer of electrons
between two species.

 WHERE THIS CHEMICAL REACION CAN BE SEEN?

Redox reaction is usually seen in rusting materials and metals.

 WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS CHEMICAL REACTION?

Redox takes place to photosynthesis and it also takes place in biological process.

 HOW IT RELATES TO THE LAYMEN/ORDINARY PEOPLE?

As a human being this chemical reaction affects us too specially in our daily life.
PALISOC, JELSSA CLAIRE DR.
KREB’S CYCLE
 WHAT IS THE CHEMICAL EQUATION?
The chemical equation of Kreb’s Cycle is:

 WHERE THIS CHEMICAL REACION CAN BE SEEN?

Kreb’s cycle occurs in the matrix of the mitochondrion.

 WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS CHEMICAL REACTION?

Kreb’s cycle is important because it is the main source of energy for cells
and an important part of aerobic respiration. (Aerobic respiration is a chemical
process in which oxygen is used to make energy from carbohydrates (sugars)

 HOW IT RELATES TO THE LAYMEN/ORDINARY PEOPLE?

Since we use a lot of energy in our daily lives, Kreb’s Cycle is important to our body
because its main function is to produce energy.
REFLECTION:
In this performance task, we learned what is the
importance of chemical reaction in our everyday life. We
discover that it does not only affect our environment,
but also our body development. By observing chemical
reactions, we are able to understand and explain how the
natural world works.
Chemical reactions occur everywhere in the world around
you, not just in a chemistry lab.
