AIM:

 TO BUILD A MODEL OF THE CHOSSEN STRUCTURE BUILDING

-PRATT TRUSS BRIDGE- Scale-1:100 CONSTRUCTION -IV
DESCRIPTION & PURPOSE:
 This model is inspired by a classic bridge type called a Pratt truss

-MODEL
bridge. You can identify a Pratt truss by its diagonal members,
which (except for the very end ones) all slant down and in toward
the center of the span. All the diagonal members are subject to
tension forces only, while the shorter vertical members handle
the compressive forces. Since the tension removes the buckling
risk, this allows for thinner diagonal members resulting in a more
economic design.
BRIEF-
 A truss structure supports only tension and compression forces in
its members

 It is mainly used for rail bridges, showing off a simple and very
strong design.

MODEL DEFINITON
Δ MATERIAL:
this model is made of 5mm thick form board.

Δ BASIC DIMENSION:
NAME EXPRESSION DESCRIPTION
width 7[m] Width of bridge
height 5[m] Height of bridge
spacing 5[m] Spacing between
members along the bridge
Δ ALIA BINT KHALID
length 40[m] Total bridge length Δ 19091AA001
truck weight 12000[kg] Total truck weight
Advantages:
Δ Aware of member’s behavior –
diagonal members are in tension, -THE MODEL-
vertical members in compression
Δ The above can be used to design a
cost-effective structure
Δ Simple design
Δ Well accepted and used design

Disadvantages: Side view

Δ Not as advantageous if the load is not
vertical, as this type of truss is most
appropriate for horizontal spans,
where the force is predominantly in
the vertical direction.

Best Used For:

Δ Where a cost-effective design is

Δ Where a mix of loads are applied
Δ Where a simple structure is required
