Competencies Theorem.

(M10AL-Ig-1)

Divides polynomials using long division and synthetic division.

Illustrates remainder theorem, factor theorem and rational root theorem.

I. Specific Objectives: Finds the remainder using the remainder theorem and all the rational roots using the
rational root theorem and factors using the factor theorem.

Applies dividing polynomials in solving real-life problems.

C. Lesson Proper Lesson 1: Division of Polynomials

Activity

i. Communicate the learning objectives to the class.

ii. Show DepEd TV Episode : Dividing Polynomials

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq_ewegPqkc

Activity 1. Divide me! (Long Division or Synthetic Division)

▪ Five (5) groups of students are formed. Each group will be given strips of paper
with a number on it to answer. Item 1 will be answered by Group I, item 2 by
Group II, and so on.

▪ Each group will answer for 5 minutes and write it on a manila paper and post it
to the board.

▪ A representative from each group will have to present their answer to the class
after the allotted time.

Note:(Ask the questions in the analysis after each activity)

Lesson 2: Proving the Remainder , Factor Theorems and the Rational

Root Theorem

i. Communicate the learning objectives to the class.

ii. Teacher Input (Proving the Remainder , Factor Theorems and the Rational

Root Theorem

Activity 2: Use me!

▪ With the same groupings, each group will answer the number that corresponds
to their group number.

▪ A 5 minute time is given for each group to answer and have it written in the
manila paper.

▪ A representative from each group will have to present their answer to the class
after the allotted time.
Note:(Ask the questions in the analysis after each activity)

Ask the learners the following questions:

Activity 1: Division of Polynomials

1. How did you find the activity?

2. Where you able to answer it easily?

3. What will you do first before dividing polynomials?

4. How was the first quotient obtained?

5. What will you do next?

D. Analysis

Activity 2: Proving the Remainder , Factor Theorems and the Rational

Root Theorem

1. What is the relation between the remainder and the value of the polynomial at x = r
when the polynomial P(x) is divided by a binomial of the form x – r?

2. How will you find the remainder when a polynomial in x is divided by

a binomial of the form x – r?

3. What happens if the remainder is zero?

IV. Abstraction Call on volunteers to provide a summary, synthesis, or generalization of this lesson.
Guide them by asking what they have learned about:
1. dividing polynomials using long division and synthetic division;

2. finding the remainder using synthetic division or the Remainder

Theorem;

3. determining whether (x – r) is a factor of a polynomial.

III. Application
V. Assessment: I. Match Column I with the appropriate synthetic division in Column II.
Write the letter of the correct answer.
II. Use the Remainder Theorem to find the remainder when the given polynomial

is divided by each binomial. Verify your answer using synthetic division. Indicate
whether or not each binomial is a factor of the given polynomial.

III. Use the Factor Theorem to determine whether or not the first polynomial is a

factor of the second. Then, give the remainder if the second polynomial is divided by
the first polynomial.
