Finding common. (Integrating MAPEH)

A. Reviewing previous
lesson or Presenting the
new lesson

Factoring
The process of finding the factors of a mathematical expression is called
factoring, which is the opposite process of the multiplication.
B. Establishing a purpose Factoring Common Monomial Factor
for the lesson Terminologies:
Common Monomial Factor (CMF) - the factor contained in every
term.
Factor- an exact divisor of a number.
Monomial – a mathematical expression consisting of one term.

MULTIPLY ME, FACTOR ME!

C. Presenting a. Finding the products b. Finding the factors
examples/instances of
x  x  x2 x2  (x)(x)
the new lesson
y  y  y2 y2  ( y)( y)
3 4 12 12  (3)(4)
3x  4x  12x 2
12x2  (2)(2)(3)(x)(x)
3xy  4xy  12x2 y2 (2)(2)(3)(x)(x)(y)(y)

Questions:
1. What is the product of x and x?
2. What are the factors of x²?
3. Give the product of 3x and 4x.
4. Give the factors of 12x².
5. What is your observation from the given examples?

Finding the Common Monomial Factor

a. Find the greatest common factor of the numerical coefficients.
b. Find the variable with the least exponent in each term of the
polynomial
D. Discussing new c. The product of the GCF in a and the variable with the least
concepts and practicing exponents in b is the Common Monomial Factor (CMF) of the
new skills #1 polynomial.
d. To find the factors of the given expression, divide the
given polynomial by its CMF.
e. The CMF & the resulting quotient are the factors.
