Unit Wrap Up: Purpose

• SIT124 Exploring IT is a 1st year, 1st trimester unit


– Designed as an introductory unit for those new
to university
• Covers a number of technical topics, but it also covers:
– Feedback literacies, peer review, group work, reflection on learning,
independent learning, self-review
– Compulsory activities on career development
– SIT124: Is the corner piece of the jigsaw puzzle that is your degree
– Many different puzzles being made

Unit learning outcomes

Unit learning outcomes guided modules and assessment:


1. Describe the broad range of careers within the IT profession, and explain
their respective skills, responsibilities, and professional practices.
2. Investigate new technologies, and analyse the information located to
provide a high level technical overview and to position it with respect to
earlier advances in the field.
3. Design and develop websites using modern HTML and CSS
standards.

Objectives for this module

In this module we investigated new technologies, looking specifically at disruptive and


emerging technologies via a case study approach. We provided a technical overview of
these technologies and also position them respect to earlier advances in the field.

In this module we will continued our efforts in designing and developing website,
specifically building our HTML and CSS skills using the CMS WordPress. The HTML
and CSS skills can be applied in other web design contexts.

This exam is composed of five parts:


• Section A: True/False (10 Marks)
10 questions - worth 1 mark each
• Section B – Explain the Terms (18 Marks)
9 Questions - worth 2 marks each
• Section C – Short Answer (35 Marks) • Try and attempt all questions
7 Questions - worth 5 marks each from all sections
• Section D – Short Essay Answer (18 Marks)
2 Questions - worth 9 marks each
• Section E – Scenario (19 Marks)

End of Unit Exam/Quiz – Timings

You will have 3 Hours to complete your exam/quiz.


• This time includes readings time and time to complete the
questions.
• 29 Questions worth 100 marks
Number of marks for each question determines the length of response
• Section A - select an answer of True or False.
• Section B - It is expected that you will write a sentence or two for your answers to this section.
• Section C - It is expected that you will write a paragraph or two for your answers to this section.
• Section D - It is expected that you would write two to four paragraphs for your answer to this
section.
• Section E - It is expected that you would write about a page for this section with headings.

Section E: Scenarios

A theme in this unit is of course disruptive and emerging technology.

You have been asked to create a website which explains these terms to the Older
Generations (people of your parents ages).

Within your site you should proved examples of these terms including materials and
content which would suite and match the requirements of the target audience.

In your response answer use the following headings:


- Why is this needed
- Who is the target audience
- What content would you include
- What would the site look like (describe in words)

What won’t be on the exam

How to use WordPress

i.e. you activate a theme through ‘appearance’


That has been covered within the other assessment items

Writing code or script


However you may be asked to interpret it.

Next step for SIT124

This is the last lecture class, next week is study week (Week 12), then
end of unit exam periods.
Please use the exam discussion and practice quiz/exam to help you
prepare.
Ask any questions you have on the ‘questions for the unit chair’
discussion board.
We will run two drop-in sessions next week for any exam or last minute
Assignment 3 questions:
• Tuesday 2nd June 10-12pm and Wednesday 3rd June 9-11am

• A website is a common way of curating evidence

• If not you can start at anytime.
• Start collecting your experiences and your evidence.
• You now have skills in website design so you can start a portfolio using
WordPress site - www.wordpress.com or Portfolium

At university you have the opportunity to provide feedback on the


teaching and learning your experienced in units via an online survey
• Anonymous and voluntary, but appreciated
• Closed questions, also open questions
– Don’t need to provide comments
• Base your answers on how the unit addressed the learning outcomes
– As this guides assessment and learning material i.e. the ‘study modules’
– Take the opportunity to provide useful and clear feedback
