DESCRIPTION

2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION

2.1. MAIN FUNCTIONS

The main functions of the industrial gases system are to store, generate and supply
the industrial gases (hydrogen, argon and nitrogen) to the equipment who needs it for
a correct maintenance or operation; complying with their requirements in terms of
pressure, temperature and flow rate.

- Hydrogen (H2): Hydrogen is supplied to the gas turbine and steam turbine
generator for internal pressurization. During normal operation, hydrogen will be
supplied by the hydrogen generation plant. During initial filling and pressurization,
hydrogen should be supplied from high pressure cylinders.

- Argon (Ar): Argon is supplied to the GT and ST generators during filling and purge
to avoid contact between atmospheric air and hydrogen.

- Nitrogen (N2): Nitrogen is supplied to HRSGs for inertization and conservation

purposes in case of long-term standstills. Also, nitrogen is supplied to fuel gas
system for equipment/lines purging during maintenance.

2.2. DESCRIPTION

2.2.1. General

Ar, H2 and N2 gases are used as industrial gases for plant industrial gas requirement.
The Ar gas system supply Ar gas for turbine generator air purging before hydrogen
filling during start-up / commissioning and for hydrogen removal during generator
maintenance.

Hydrogen is filled in the generator to remove the heat from the generator. The
hydrogen consumption is applicable in the following cases:

▪ Hydrogen is required in the generator for initial filling/purging of argon.

DESCRIPTION

▪ Additional hydrogen is required for turbine generator cooling system to

compensate the leakage loss during operation.

The N2 gas system considered for the following purposes:

▪ To prevent HRSG pressure parts from corrosion.

▪ To purge fuel gas system equipment / piping during maintenance.

2.2.2. Hydrogen System

The H2 system includes H2 supply skids for each generator for initial filling and
commissioning operations. This system is designed/supplied by turbine vendor, for
further details refer to GT/ST supplier (SIEMENS) documents.

For maintaining the H2 pressure during plant normal operation, a hydrogen generator
plant (electrolyser) will supply the required flow of hydrogen at needed pressure. This
plant has a configuration 2 x 100% and distributes hydrogen for the 6 generators of
the plant.

2.2.3. Argon System

The Argon system includes Ar bottle rack, Ar evaporator and supply gas to H2 skid
which further lead to turbines generators during commissioning operation. This
system is designed/supplied by Turbines supplier, for further details refer to GT/ST
supplier (SIEMENS) documents.

2.2.4. Nitrogen System

The N2 system includes storage bottles & manifold to supply N2 gas to the fuel gas
system line/equipment purging and to HRSG steam side during maintenance and long
shutdown period for preservation. The gas manifold system consists of pressure
reducing station to reduce the bottled gas pressure to supply N2 gas at required

condition. The pressure reducing valve station downstream is provided with pressure
safety valve.

Additionally, a self-regulating pressure reducing station is provided to maintain a

pressure inside HRSG during log shutdown period for preservation. The HRSG
nitrogen station supplies N2 to a single point of the HRSG, from which N2 is distributed
to HP, IP and LP HRSG drums.

3. INTERFACES

3.1. GENERAL

The interfaces of the industrial gases storage and supply system with other systems
or related equipment are described below. The interfaces are classified according to
those that are necessary for the operation of the system (support systems) or
according to those that are provided by the system and are necessary to allow other
systems to carry out their functions (dependent systems).

3.2. SUPPORT SYSTEMS

Mechanical systems:

▪ Demineralized water system (to feed H2 generators).

Electrical Systems:

▪ Low voltage system (for power supply of H2 generators).

Control Systems:

▪ Distributed control system (DCS).

3.3. DEPENDENT SYSTEMS

Mechanical systems:

▪ Gas turbine generator, this system supplies Ar gas for purging and H2 gas for
cooling to GT generator

▪ Steam turbine generator, this system supplies Ar gas for purging and H2 gas for
cooling to ST generator

▪ HRSG, this system supplies N2 gas to HRSG steam side during maintenance or
during long shutdown period for preservation.

4. INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL

4.1. INSTRUMENTATION

Instruments are represented on the following piping and instrumentation diagram:

4.2. Control

In this section, descriptive narrative is provided for the control and protection of the
system. For details on the logics of this system, please refer to the following
document:

• AD2-C1-00-QFB-IDW-IDM-06752 Compressed Air System. Logic diagrams

This system is in close relation with the H2 generation plant PLC, therefore some
signals are exchanged between this PLC and the DCS in order to operate in a
coordinated way. Details of this exchange are included in the logic diagram document
mentioned above.

The table below summarizes the actuators of this system:

KKS Service Type Notes

- H2 generator 1 Package plant
- H2 generator 2 Package plant

This system includes few actuators as it is very simple in terms of control. It does not
include any control loop implemented in the DCS. Manifolds include self regulating
valves to provide constant pressure for the consumers connected in the distribution
systems. These valves will adjust depending on the demands.

DESCRIPTION

4.2.1. H2 generators

H2 generation plant with 2x100% configuration is provided. The H2 generation plant

is a package plant with its own controller. Between H2 generation plant local controller
and DCS there is basic signal exchange to allow coordinated operation. The H2
generation plant is required to operate based on the pressure at H2 distribution
header to the 6 GT/ST generators.

One single H2 generators is sized to supply all GT/ST generators as per their
expected normal consumption.

In case of a problem with the H2 generator plant, pressure would reduce below the
predefined setting and H2 high pressure cylinders would work as backup. Operator
can decide to changeover to the other H2 generation plant.
