Q1. Two smooth pipes, each having a mass of 300 kg, are supported by the forked tines of
tractor. Draw FBD for each pipe and both pipes together.

Q2. Determine the support reactions on the member as shown in the figure below. The collar
at A is fixed to the member and can slide vertically along vertical shaft.

Answer: Ax  0, N B  900 N, M A  1.49 kNm

Q3. The member shown in figure below is pin connected at A and rest against a smooth
support at B. Draw FBD of member.

Q4. The lever ABC is pin supported and connected to a short link BD as shown in the figure
below. If the weight of member is negligible, determine the force of the pin on the lever
at A.

Q5. A homogeneous block is held by two cables as shown in figure below. The block has a
mass of m = 100 kg. To hold the block in positon as shown in figure, with its upper
surface horizontally, a load P is applied. Calculate the following forces assuming a
gravitational constant g = 10 m/s2. (a) Force P to hold the block as shown; (b) Forces in
the cables AB and CD.
