In fact, the notes are so rare that people are known to stash
them away as keepsakes, leading to even fewer bills in public
circulation.
Abaca is versatile and can be made for other uses such as in the
making of brown envelopes known the world over as ‘Manila
envelopes’. Demand for abaca — a species of the banana plant
native to the Philippines — could increase if pulp from the
fibres are used to make specialty paper for valuable official
documents such as land titles and birth certificates.

Isa pang dahilan kung bakit mahirap makita ang bagong pera ay
dahil bahagyang magdala ng ganoon kalaking halaga ang mga
ordinaryong Pilipino. Mayroon ding pag-aatubili sa mga tindera o
tindero na tanggapin ang mga pera dahil na rin hindi sila
nakasisiguro sa bisa nito, na may mga maling datos ang kumakalat
sa social media.

The election campaign may have ended, but the awakened movement
lives on.
Addressing her first public gathering since the May 9 polls, Vice
President Leni Robredo thanked her supporters while asking them
to stay around and remain organized so they can help her continue
efforts to lift the lives of the marginalized.
“On the first day of July, we will launch ‘Angat Buhay’ (Uplift
Lives) as an NGO (nongovernmental organization),” Robredo told
thousands of her supporters—who call themselves “kakampinks” for
their political color—at the Ateneo de Manila University on
Friday night.
The Vice President also asked them keep harnessing the spirit of
volunteerism that powered her election campaign with her running
mate, outgoing Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
“Sa unang araw ng Hulyo, ilulunsad natin ang Angat Buhay NGO,”
ani ni Robredo sa kaniyang mga taga-suporta, "kakampinks" tawag
sa mga taong sumusuporta kay Bise Presidente Leni Robredo at
kanilang kulay sa politika--sa Ateneo de Manila University noong
Biyernes ng gabi.

Rappler CEO appeals CA ruling on cyber libel case
“This rule commands courts such as this one that when the
law admits of several competing interpretations, the
interpretation most favorable to the accused should apply,” it
said. A prescriptive period is a period set under the law within
which a complaint can be filed. For example, under the Revised
Penal Code, prescription period for libel is one year. However,
the Manila Court that convicted both Ressa and Santos said the
prescription should be 12 years.

All eyes are once again set on volleyball superstar Deanna Wong
as she returns to the court for the Premiere Volleyball League
(PVL) Invitational Conference with her teammates in Choco Mucho
Flying Titans. Her popularity is considered phenomenal. Deanna is
followed and adored by fans, who cheer for her inside and outside
of the court. Her charming personality and inimitable dance moves
are also sending shrieks and thrills to netizens. On Instagram
alone, Deanna (deannawongst) has 1.4 million followers.
Take me back to the time when you were not as big as you are
today. Did you hear from the bleachers all the praises and
tirades? Did you get affected?
Have you fallen in love with somebody from the opposite gender?
Wala pa.
No, it’s normal. Walang problema kasi I’ve also been thinking
about that na, well, lalo na for my mom (laughs).
What does mom say?
Well, mom is still hoping, hahahaha. Not just mom but also dad.
But you really can’t control what you would feel towards a
certain person. Love comes unexpectedly, so the best thing to do
is kung saan ka masaya.
People know you play musical instruments, with your dad being a
musician. What kind of musical instruments do you play?
I’m open to the possibility na kahit sino ka man, where you come
from, I really don’t mind.
Self-love.
ganitong tanong?
Literal Translation
The translator used literal translation since it is an
article and part of the technical writing. There are no
idioms and metaphoric expressions stated at the source text.
An example of literal translation " Ang pagmamahal sa iba ay
talagang importante" which is translated to " Loving someone
is really essential" which is the literal meaning of tne
context. Another line is "Ang aking payo ay ang pag-ibig ay
walang kinikilingang kasarian" in the target language, it's
my advice is loge knows no gender" which is the literal
context of the lines being said.

DepEd spokesman Michael Tan Poa said they are still fine-tuning
details for the conduct of the five-day in-person classes and it
should be finished by August 15.
"For now, we are still fine-tuning the details until August 15.
We will release full details of the opening of classes where we
will address such issues." he said in an interview over ABS CBN
News Channel on Tuesday.
TRANSLATION METHODS
Free Translation
Generally, in translating the news article from the
source language (English) to its equivalent target language
(Filipino), the translator uses Free Translation. The source
language text was translated to its equivalent target
language text base on the preferences and understanding of
the translator but of course the contextual meaning was
preserved. This was seen in the statement like; "DepEd
spokesman Michael Tan Poa said they are still fine-tuning
details for the conduct of the five-day in-person classes
and it should be finished by August 15", whereas its
equivalent translation was “Sinabi ng tagapagsalita ng DepEd
na si Michael Tan Poa na sinusuri pa nila ang mga detalye
para sa pagsasagawa ng limang araw na personal na klase at
dapat itong matapos sa ika-15 ng Agosto”. In this case, I
guess the contextual meaning was preserved. This method of
translation was one among commonly used during the
translation phase.
Adaptation
Adaptation was also used in the translation of the news
article. This was seen in a way wherein some of the SL terms
was adopted to the TL. For instance, the main character or
speaker who is the spokesperson of DEPED who is Michael Tan
Poa, still the name was preserved in the target language.
Same goes with the institution, particularly, DEPED, ABS CBN
News Channel, also the term “face-to-face”, “distant
learning”, and “blended learning”, I guess these
terminologies do not have equivalent term in the target
language and so those were adopted or preserved in the
target language.
TRANSLATION TECHNIQUES
Transcription
In translating the culture bound terms present in the
article, the translator uses Transcription wherein the
translator borrowed or preserved the CBTs such as “face-to-
face”, “distant learning”, and “blended learning”. These
terminologies having no exact or equivalent translation in
the target language.
TRANSLATION PROCEDURE
Transference
Transference was one of the translation procedure used
in translating this news article. It is when the CBTs such
as “face-to-face”, “distant learning”, and “blended
learning” are being transferred to the target language since
there are no equivalent term for these this the TL.
Naturalization
In translating the news article, naturalization was
also one among the procedure used during the translation
process. An example for this one are the source language
terms including “personal” which was also translated as
“personal”; the SL term “protocol” and the equivalent term
was “protocol” and lastly, the word “exception” or
“eksepsiyon” in the target languge.
Shifts or Transposition
The change of the grammatical structure of the source
language text while translating the article to its
equivalent target language text known as shifting or
transposition was also given emphasis during the translation
of this article. This was seen in the statement “Full face-
to-face classes are set to be implemented starting November
2.” Wherein its equivalent translation turn out to become
“Nakatakdang ipatupad ang buong face-to-face na klase simula
sa ika-2 ng Nobyembre”.
Paraphrase
There are also instances that the translator uses
paraphrasing during the translation phase of the SL text to
its equivalent TL text. For instance, this was seen in the
statement “Full face-to-face classes are set to be
implemented starting November 2.” Wherein its equivalent
translation turn out to become “Nakatakdang ipatupad ang
buong face-to-face na klase simula sa ika-2 ng Nobyembre”.
