Before we start our lesson, let us have a simple
prayer.

Good morning class. How are you today? I
hope all of you are doing great. Are you ready
to learn our new lesson?

Have you ever identified what is true and what is not? And how have you ever validated the opinion
of others on certain topics? And have you ever fought for your stand and provided evidence by means
of fact-checking?

1. What is fact.?
A fact is a statement that is true and can be verified objectively, or proven. In other words, a fact is
true and correct, no matter what.

2. What is opinion?
An opinion, however, is a statement that holds an element of belief; it tells how someone feels. An
opinion is not always true and cannot be proven.
3. How can we identify if the statement is opinion or fact?
Questions to Identify Facts:
• Can the statement be proven or demonstrated to be true?
• Can the statement be observed in practice or operation? Can you see it
happen?
• Can the statement be verified by witnesses, statistics, or documents?

Words to Identify Opinions:


• Biased Words (awful amazing, bad, beautiful, best, better, disgusting,
exciting, favorite, frightful, fun, good, great, handsome, horrible, miserable,
more, most, smart, stupid, terrible, unbelievable ugly, very etc.)

• Qualifiers (all, always, appear, believe, could, every, has/have to, it is


believed, likely, may, might, must, never, often, only, ought to, possibly,
possible, probably, seem, should, sometimes, think, usually etc.
