Write a reflection of what you have learn in Mental Health Awareness Webinar

CSUCC Guidance and Counseling Center’s Facebook page conducted a live video event
on October 5, 2022, at 1:30 PM. This event was organized together with the Caraga State
University-Cabadbaran Campus and led by the Guidance and Counseling Center with a guest
speaker, Mr. Karl Adams C. Soria, RGC, wherein they emphasized awareness of mental health
awareness entitled "Self-Care: Heal Thyself." In which, mental health is something we need to
think about because somehow, we thought it was just nothing, and we ignored the fact that many
people are experiencing it. Especially in these trying times, a lot of us are just staying at home
and not having someone who they can open up or talk to, especially us students and other people
affected by it. Most are afraid to speak out because they may be scared or afraid of judgment.
Because of this situation, a lot of us are suffering from depression, anxiety, and other negative
emotions that creep into our minds.

As we all know, mental health is a serious matter and needs to be considered at the time
of the COVID-19 pandemic. I realized how mental health can affect someone in many ways.
Before the situation, I never stopped and thought so much about mental health. Along with
today’s crisis, the mental health crisis is increasing also. But the webinar aims to have a deeper
discussion about how to maintain each other’s mental health during these days and how to use
our strategies to deal with mental health problems and how to deal with the new normal. Then,
they remind students that whatever judgments we receive from other people, we must remember
that all our emotions are valid. Besides, they helped replenish our knowledge about it and
explained how we can get through this situation with emotional spiritual intelligence and
emotional intelligence that can be used to control negative thoughts and be positive. In line with
this, there is some relevant information that they shared that the students will need to work on.

It’s a great opportunity for us to attend such seminars like this because it tackles mental
health issues and makes people more aware of their mental health issues, as I would say. And I
think it would be of great help if we could spread awareness of what we can do to help people
fight against their mental situations as well. Moreover, their purpose is to help, remind, and learn
how to react immediately and appropriately, and I truly appreciate how they were paying
attention to details that improved our info drive on the said webinar. I now know where to go
when I need some counseling and I understand that we must be prepared to react to any
occurrence and to appropriately improvise if need be. Remember not to worry. Put your spin on
things. That is to say, be yourself and be aware of all things. So, I try to stay open and I know
that they are worth tackling and overcoming because one never knows how a seemingly random
experience might have a lasting impact.
