past years in your professional education courses. You will gradually validate those by your

The School of Teacher Education (STE) shall be renowned as a repository of exemplary


teachers and educational leaders equipped with essential competence, discipline and dignity in
their profession for the progress of humanity.

1. Provide quality education and training to future teachers.

III. THE TEACHER EDUCATION PERFORMANCE FRAMEWORK:


THE PHILIPPINE PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR
TEACHERS (DepEd Order No. 42 s 2017)

The Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers, which is built on NCBTS, complements the
reform initiatives on teacher quality from pre-service education to in-service training. It
articulates what constitutes teacher quality in the K to 12 Reform through well-defined domains,
strands, and indicators that provide measures of professional learning, competent practice, and
effective engagement. This set of standards makes explicit what teachers should know, be able
to do and value to achieve competence, improved student learning outcomes, and eventually
quality education. It is founded on teaching philosophies of learner-centeredness, lifelong
learning, and inclusivity/inclusiveness, among others. The professional standards, therefore,
become a public statement of professional accountability that can help teachers reflect on and
assess their own practices as they aspire for personal growth and professional development.
The 7 Domains collectively comprise 37 strands that refer to more specific dimensions of
teacher practices.

Domain 1, Content Knowledge and Pedagogy, is composed of seven strands:


1. Content knowledge and its application within and across curriculum areas
2. Research-based knowledge and principles of teaching and learning
3. Positive use of ICT
4. Strategies for promoting literacy and numeracy
5. Strategies for developing critical and creative thinking, as well as other higher-order
thinking skills

The STE adheres to the development of the beginning teachers as exemplified in the 1 st stage
career development in the PPST. The TIP embraces the adoption and effective implementation
of the PPST throughout the duration of the experiential learning courses to ensure that STE
graduates are fit to perform their duties and responsibilities as expected from a 21 st century
teacher.

IV. NATURE OF FIELD STUDY

Field Study 1: Observations of Teaching – Learning in Actual School Environment

Course Description

This is the first experiential course, which will immerse a future teacher to actual
classroom situation and learning environment where direct observation of teaching
learning episodes that focus on the application of educational theories learned in content
and pedagogy courses will be made. Observations on learners’ behaviour, motivation,
and teacher’s strategies of teaching, classroom management, and assessment in
learning among others shall be given emphasis. A portfolio shall be required in the
course.
Course Credit: 3 units
Contact Hours: 3hrs/week
Pre-requisite: All professional and specialization subjects

Course Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you should be able to:

1. Describe how a safe and secure learning environment contribute to the physical, socio-
emotional and cognitive development of learners
2. Determine ways of addressing learners ‘diversity in terms of gender, needs, interests,
cultural background and difficult circumstances
3. Appraise how teacher manifests her/his personal and professional competencies
4. Illustrate the teaching – learning process and the use of ICT to promote quality relevant
and sustainable educated process
5. Assess the various classroom management strategies observed in class
6. Analyse concepts, theories and principles in curriculum development in actual classroom
setting
7. Evaluate assessment and reporting practices done in the classroom
8. Formulate one’s philosophy of teaching

Field Study 2: Participation and Teaching Assistanship

Course Description

This course is a continuation of Field Study 1. It is school based and allows a preservice
student to participate and assist in a limited actual teaching-learning activities that relate
to assessment of learning, preparation of instructional materials, preparation of bulletin
boards and other routines in the classroom. A portfolio which will contain sample lesson
or learning plans and demonstration teaching of at least one subject content area will be
required. An action research shall be encouraged to start in this course and conclude
during the internship.
Course Credit: 3 units
Contact Hours: 3hrs/week
Pre-requisite: All professional and specialization subjects

Course Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you should be able to:


1. Create a safe and secure learning environment that contributes to the physical, socio-
emotional and cognitive development of learners.
2. Demonstrate ways of addressing learners’ diversity in terms of gender, needs, interests,
cultural background and difficult circumstances
3. Reflect on how a teacher manifests his/her personal and professional competencies.
4. Participate in the teaching – learning process and use instructional materials including
ICT to promote quality, relevant and sustainable educative process.
5. Apply the various classroom management strategies
6. Apply concepts, theories and principles in curriculum development in an actual
classroom setting.
7. Demonstrate assessment and reporting practices done in the classroom
8. Write an initial action research plan with the purpose of improving teaching practices.

V. KEY PLAYERS IN THE FIELD STUDY DEPLOYMENT

Field Study Deployment calls for collaborative relationship between the cooperating school and
Colegio de Dagupan. The ultimate goal of this partnership is the achievement of a high level of
professional competence for the prospective teacher. The active participants who will be
working together toward this goal are the following:

1. The Field Study student: A college student enrolled in Field Study Courses in
preparation for Teaching Internship Program. During this period he/she will take
increasing responsibility for the work of a given group of pupils over a portion of the
semester together with a resource teacher. He/she will report to the FS assignment as
scheduled.

2. The Resource Teacher: An experienced teacher who has the responsibility of inducting
a novice into the profession of teaching. This is a person who is competent not only as
a

classroom teacher, but also as a facilitator in helping a student teacher develop his/her
own style and expertise in teaching. The cooperating teacher works closely with the
college supervisor to maximize the possibilities for the student teacher’s success and to
provide continuous feedback on the student teacher’s progress toward becoming and
educational professional.

3. Field Study Teacher: A member of teacher education faculty who works with student
teachers and with cooperating teachers in coordinating field study activities. This
individual has a professional background with teaching experience; provides on-going
coaching to the student teacher; communicates with the cooperating teacher and
principal; serves as a liaison between the college and cooperating school; and, like the
cooperating teacher, evaluates the growth and potential effectiveness of the student
teacher.

4. The Laboratory School / Cooperating School: A public or private school which


recognizes the responsibilities for teacher education by providing facilities and support
for the professional laboratory experience in teaching.

VI. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR STUDENT TEACHERS


Performance standards of field study students consist of a set of very specific competencies and
skills described in the course outcomes for each Field Study Courses. Aside from the course
outcomes, field study students shall be assessed using the Field Study Evaluation Form. (See
Appendix A). This form shall be used to determine the day to day classroom performance of the
field study students to be assessed by their cooperating teachers. The form shall serve as the
instrument to evaluate the overall performance of the field study students in their respective
assigned cooperating schools. This shall be evaluated by their cooperating teachers at the end
of their Field Study Deployment.

POLICIES FOR FIELD STUDY DEPLOYMENT

A. PRIOR TO DEPLOYMENT

1. All incoming FS students shall have no academic subjects prior to enrolment of Educ
1C and Educ 2C as reflected in the curriculum checklist.

2. All incoming FS students shall undergo series of pre-service teacher trainings hosted
by the STE to be conducted during the Competency – Improvement Program -3:
Enhancing Pre-service Teachers. They are required to attend and participate in the
said event. They are required to have Exit Teaching Demonstration after the pre-
service training and must be able to pass the demonstration based from the PRE-
SERVICE TEACHER’S ACTUAL TEACHING CHECKLIST. (See Appendix B). Certificate
of Completion (COC-1) shall be awarded to all attendees at the end of the training.

is a required STE activity and only students who attended shall enrol Teaching
Internship in the next semester.

3. All FS students shall submit NOTARIZED WRITTEN CONSENT from his or her parents
or legal guardian.

4. All FS students are required to attend the FS orientation as scheduled by the STE
department and the cooperating school. No students shall be deployed without
attending the orientation.

5. All FS students are required to wear their official school uniform for their deployment
that will also be used for the Teaching Internship Program.

6. All FS students are required to purchase the Field Study books as basis for their
deployment.

7. Pregnant teacher interns are advised to take their Field Study Deployment for the
next term the subject is offered.

8. All FS students shall attend to their FS deployment based from the Scheduled FS
Deployment.

B. DURING THE DEPLOYMENT

1. The FS students shall be endorsed to the School Principal of the Cooperating School
(CT). All FS students must attend to the CT’s orientation.

2. The FS students shall be assigned the CT’s available and highly competent resource
teachers for their observation and teaching assistantship.

3. The FS students must successfully complete the required number hours for the
completion of deployment.

4. The FS students shall secure class schedules from their Resource Teachers.

5. The FS students shall observe classes and may work with a partner. A Field Study
partner is one whom one can discuss and work with after the FS experience.

6. The FS students shall wear official school uniform during the Field Study Deployment
in the Cooperating Schools.

7. The FS students shall demonstrate personal qualities that reflect a good image of a
teacher. These qualities include courtesy, respect, honestly, diligence, open-
mindedness, critical thinking and among others.
8. The FS students shall demonstrate proper behaviours in the presence of the
learners, teachers, school personnel, administration and parents.

9. The FS students shall request the signature of the Resource Teacher or the FS
faculty immediately after the activity has been done.

10. The FS students are required to prepare a portfolio for every Field Study Course and
other requirements specified in the Section Course Requirements.

11. The FS Deployment shall attend conferences/consultations as required by the


Resource Teachers and FS Teachers.

12. The FS student is expected to achieve complete attendance during the Field Study
experience as reflected in the DTR. If illness or emergency prevents the student
teacher from being in the classroom, both the cooperating teacher and university
supervisor must be notified immediately. It is the responsibility of the FS student to
submit excuse letter and attachment of supporting documents for the absences.
Make up classes shall be done at the end duration of the FS deployment. They are
required to secure excuse slip from the Students’ Affairs Office.

On rare occasions, a field study students may be excused from FS responsibilities to


participate in the school activities. On such occasions, the number of hours spent in the
school activities is considered hour for the deployment.

Succeeding tardiness shall be reported to the Dean for the issuance of warning for
suspension to the student teacher. The FS student shall not be accepted to continue
the FS deployment not until the deliberation in the STE department has been
conducted. If the FS student has reported and verified in his/her negligence in duty,
his/her deployment is terminated.

Field Study students are encouraged to do more than the minimum, and to display
commitment to their learners, as well as to all those supporting them; their cooperating
teacher, the cooperating school, the college supervisor.

13. Student teachers should avoid substitute teacher assignments as these place them in
legal jeopardy. Although the student teacher is regarded as a professional in the
school, he/she is not legally responsible for what happens in the classroom.

14. Student teachers may be removed permanently from the field site for critical or
sensitive cases as a result of further investigation of the cases.

15. All FS students shall attend the post-conference with the Cooperating School.

AFTER THE FS DEPLOYMENT

1. All FS students are required to secure exit clearance from their assigned cooperating
schools.

2. All FS students are required to complete the Field Study Experience Evaluation Form
to be given by the FS Teacher.

3. All FS must complete satisfactorily all FS requirements 1-2week/s after the


deployment period. Certificate of Completion shall be issued to interns. Only
students with Certificate of Completion shall be recommended by the Head/Dean to
qualify for Teaching Internship Program

Note: INC shall be given as a remark for non – compliance. The FS student is
only given one month complete the requirements otherwise, the subject shall be
subject for re-enrolment.

4. The FS Deployment shall conclude with a closing ceremony.
