Introduction:

Let us all stand up for a short prayer…. are you ready to pray?

In the name of the father, the son and of the holy spirit, Amen. Dear lord, we offer this day all we do think
and say give light to our mind to learn lessons of all kind help us to be obedient, fruitful and loving to all,
Amen. In the name of the father and the son and of the holy spirit Amen.

Good morning Class, before taking your sit, kindly pick up all the pieces of paper in your area, and please
arrange your chairs.

Okay, you may now take your sit!

To check the attendance, I will call your name and ask “taga saan ka” (where are you from) then dance while
playing music.

Very good, no one is absent today! 1, 2, 3 clap, 1, 2, and 1

To start our day, let us sing “its math time, after all” ready sing.

Oh, its math time after all…..

Excellent!

Before we begin our class, let us all be reminded of our guidelines when we are having our lesson inside our
classroom.

First is be disciplined, second Be Prepared, listen attentively, Be Participative and lastly be respectful to your
fellow classmates and teachers.

What is again our 5 guidelines?

All will response

excellent!

So now, lets have a short recap on what we have discussed yesterday. Okay, who can tell me our previous
topic? Yes, Marjoliz?

MARJOLIZ: yesterday we’ve talk about graphical representations of frequencies and distribution

Very good, yes our topic yesterday is all about graphical representations of frequencies and distribution.

In relation to our previous topic, what is a graph? Yes, carmella?

CARMELLA: Sir a Graph is a tool use to represents data

or values in an organize manner, Very good, Thank you carmela.

Question, What are the forms that can be used to summarize data? Yes, Rhona?

RHONA: they are in the forms of tabular, numerical and graphical forms , sir!

Excellent!

How about the most common graphical methods? Yes, Christine?

CARMELLA: Sir we have the line graphs, Time series, line chart, Histogram, Frequency polygons, pie
charts, pictograms and logarithmic graphs.

Excellent. So can you identify what graphical methods is this?

1
(CARMELLA, I will show a particular pictures then identify what graphocal methods are being
shown, I will tell nalang pag nasa school tau… Thank you!)

Very good! I’m glad that you can still remember our lesson yesterday!

Okay, To start our lesson for today, lets have a short activity.

Class, Do you know any kpop group, I know you are. Who is your favorite kpop group?

ALL: any kpop group

Okay, lets have a short survey…. I want you to use this heart card or heart emoji to select your
favorite kpop group okay. So we have the BTS, EXO, BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, and MOMOLAND.

Excellent! So the highest votes goes to BTS who garnered 8 votes…….

(7 Blackpink, 4 Bigbang, 3 EXO, 3 MOMOLAND, 8 BTS)

We will use this data set for our lesson today!

okay, So today, were gonna talk about the measures of central tendency of ungrouped data.

But first of all I want you to read the learning objectives of our lesson for today. Everyone!

ALL will read the learning objectives.

Class, do you have any idea about measures of central tendency of ungrouped data? Yes Floyd?

MARJOLIZ: sir, I think measures of central tendency talks about describing the given data?

Very good! But, technically speaking, measures of central tendency, is a numerical descriptive measures
which locates the center of the distribution. Meaning, (these are the values that attempt to describe a set of
data by identifying the central position within that set of data or numbers.)

For instance, instead of identifying all the frequencies or values of this data you can use a particular
measures of central tendency to acquire a single value or a single data that would represent or describe the
this set of values as a whole. Am I understood?

Now, there are 3 main measures of central tendency.

But class I have a question have you ever compute the average of your grades as you wanted to compare it
with your classmates’ grades?

ALL: yes sir!

How did you compute it? Yes, rhona?

RHONA: By adding all the final grades and divide it to the total number of subjects or learning areas.

Precisely!

Now, provided that you know how to calculate the average. Now, provided that you know how to calculate
the average. Using the acquired following set of data from the survey can you calculate what is the average?
Yes, carmela?

CARMELLA: the average of the following set of data is 5 sir!

Can you solve it on the board?

*CARMELLA will solve the average of the following set of data

7+4 +3+3+ 8
=5
5

2
CARMELLA: Therefore, the average of the following data is 5

Excellent!

But did you know class that the process of calculating the average is also the same process of calculating the
first measures of central tendency which is the MEAN.

In a nutshell, mean is also the average. Having said so, how would you define the mean?

Anyone? Yes, Christine?

CHRISTINE: sir if the average is also the mean. Then, I would define the mean as the value or a
number obtained by dividing the sum of the given data into the total number of the given data.

Can we give Christine: a 1, 2, 3, clap, 1, 2, 1. excellent mr. Christine:, yes, since the mean is also the
average then the mean can also be define as the sum of the given set of data dividing it to the total number of
the given data set. Very good.

Technically speaking, the mean is use to describe ………

Now, could you identify what are the steps in finding or calculating the mean? Yes, Mr lenard

LEAN: sir based on the definition, the steps or the process of finding the mean are, first, adding all
the given values and second divide it to the total number of the given data set.

Very good!

But in other words, there are three steps in finding the mean, first is to arrange the given set of data but take
note class that you can directly proceed doing to the second step which is to get or find the sum. Arranging
the data set is not necessarily needed in calculating the mean okay?

ALL: yes sir

So let’s have this example. What would be the mean of the following set of values? Who want to solve it on
the board?

MARJOLIZ: 82.5 sir

Excellent!

How about these what is the mean?

RHONA: 18 sir!

Class, based on these steps, could you derive a formula in finding the mean? Yes, CHRISTINE could you
please write it on the board?

CHRISTINE: so we have the mean equal to the, sum divide it to the total number of the given data.
since in finding the mean we have to get the sum and divide it to the number in the data set.

MEAN =
∑ of the given values
total number of the data set

Can we also give christine a 1, 2, 3, clap, 1, 2, 1. excellent, christine yes we could write the formula just like
this but technically speaking if we want this to make it more easy to identify we could write it this way the
summation which we could denote just like this, and use the variable x to denote the given values in a data
set, then, we will use the variable n or any variable you can use any variable if you like but here we will use
the variable x to represent the total number of the given set of data.

so we have the summation of x divided by n.

Okay lets have an example… I

I WILL ASK HOW MUCH POCKET MONEY DO YOU HAVE PER DAY.

3
Now, I want to know what is the mean or the average pocket money do you have per day .

using the formula, What would be its mean ? Yes, mr. Lenard? Can you solve it on the board?

LENARD: therefore the mean of the following values is……

Is there any question about calculating the mean? Excellent.

We will now proceed to the second measures of central tendency

Now I want you to arrange the following pictures according to the number of votes.

From the following pictures what kpop group is in the middle?

Very good, now the process of identifying the middle term of the following set of pictures is actually similar
to the second measures of central tendency which is the median.

Let’s have another example. i need 7 students to come in front.

I want you to arrange yourselves according to the sizes of your shoes. The smallest size will be the first
person on the right side okay? Do it now.

What is your shoe size…. excellent, now I want all of you to sing paruparu G while the person at the
middle will dance it okay. Now!

In relation to this activity how would you define MEDIAN? Yes rhona?

Rhona: based on the activity sir, I can define median as the process of arranging the given data and
identify what is in the middle

Excellent rhona, yes, median is actually finding the middle term of the arrange data. you may now take your
sit.

Of curse the step in finding the median is to arrange the given set of data and second simply determine what
is in the middle..

But Question, what if the total given set of numbers are even? Like for instance we have the following set of
values 2, 15, 6, 3, and 11. how will you calculate the median? Anyone? Yes marjoliz?

MARJOLIZ: sir there will be two middle term

Yes! But what we should have to do in order to get a single value of median?

MARJOLIZ: get the average sir?

Exactly! Class 123 clap, 12, 1.

Yes, marjoliz is correct, if the total number of the given set of data is even then we have to calculate the
average of the two middle term.

So if we have the following numbers what will be the median?

All: say the correct answer

Okay! Remember guys that the mean and the median are considered as the most reliable measures of central
tendency but with some degree of difference.

Okay what do you think is the most reliable measures of central tendency when we have the following set of
values.

1, 3, 1, 7, 3, 2, 100. and 3, 6, 2. 9, 10, 11, 8

4
Okay, from this given data the mos reliable measures of central tendency would be the median, why do you
think so?

CHRISTINE: sir because of the number 100 is too big compare to other values?

Very good, given that there is an extreme value in the given data which would greatly affect the result if we
are going to use the mean. This sometimes called as an outlier we can discuss this deeply in the next lesson
but today I just want you to be familiar with the measures of central tendency. Okay?

Moving on, do you have any questions about median?

Okay lets have the third measures of central tendency.

What other observations do you from from the following set of data?

Yes, LADY ANGELICA?

LADY ANGELICA: the number 3 repeated twice

Okay, Very good! So the third measures of central tendency is called the mode. In relation to the observation
of miss lady angelica how would you define the mode?

Yes, Marjoliz?

MRJOLIZ: sir I think mode refers to the most appeared number in the data set.

Precisely! Or in other word the mode is the measure of value which occurs most frequent in a set of data.

To find the mode for a set of data, we hare to consider the following. Everyone please read.

Based on the following considerations what do you think is the mode based on the color of your t-shirts.

LEAN: sir the mode based on the color of our shirts is red since red is the most occur color of shirts in
this classroom

Excellent! Can we give him 1, 2, 3 clap 12,1.. yes we can say that the mode is red since most of you wear
color red t-shirts.

Now there are types of mode, first we have the no mode, from the following set of numbers what do you
observe?

CARMELLA: there is no repeated number in the given data set.

Very good! From the word itself no mode” meaning the data set has no repeated number.

Next, we have the unimodal, and bimodal, from the term itself the unimodal has

ALL: only one mode,

while the bimodal has

ALL: two mode

So lets have the following set of values,

Next, we have the trimodal. Meaning it is a data set that has

ALL: three modes

Very good!.

Okay from the following set of data can you identify the three modes?

CARMELA: you will have to identify the three modes in front of the class

5
And the last one, we have the multimodal which is a data set that has three or more modes

Okay lets have the following set of values, can you identify what are the modes?

CHRISTINE: you will have to identify the three modes in front of the class

Okay very good!

Do you have any questions so far?

Okay, so thats it. Lets have a short recap!

Okay what do we call the average of the following set of data?

Marjoliz: MEAN

Very good! What about the measure of central tendency that talks about the middle?

CHRISTINE: MEDIAN

The most frequent number in the data set?

RHONA: MODE

What is the most reliable measures of central tendency when there is an extreme score?

JUDELYN: MEDIAN

What about the most reliable measures of central tendency when there is no extreme values or an outliers?

ANGENHIEL: MEAN

Okay I guest you are now ready for your activity!

Now I want you to group yourself into two, the first group will be on this corner and the other group will be
on this side.

First group, heres your task and second group…..

Read carefully the instructions and do the activity. Here are the materials that you can use to accomplish the
task.
You will only have 1 and 30 minutes to do the activity. okay?. You may now start.

Done!

GROUP 1 (SCRIPT)

RHONA

The task that was given to us was tendencies of heights. The instructions indicated that we have to identify or
measure our heights and calculate the mean, median and mode.

Using the meter stick we have the following heights, first (arrange yourselves accordning to your heights) so by
calculating the mean we get the sum of the following values of heights which is and divide it to the total
number of the heights which is . so the mean of the following values of heights is

next the median would be as you can see we already arrange ourselves according to our heights so we could
easily identify what is the median.

The mode will be (identify what is the mode)

GROUP 2 (SCRIPT)

MARJOLIZ

The task that was given to us was tendencies of waistlines where we measured our waistline using a tape measure
and write it on this flashcards.

So by arranging the following values of waistline we have, (ung pinakamaliit na waistline ang pinaka-una on the
right side)

the demonstrating how do we get the mean of this particular set of values, first we have to get the sum of all the
values so we get second divide it to the total number of the following set of values which is therefore the
mean of the following set of data is

Next, the median is

And the mode is/are

LEAN:

1. Your scores from the four history tests are 85, 95, 88, and 94. There is one test left and you need a mean of at
least 90 on the tests to get an A in the class. What is the minimum score that you need on the last test in order to
get an A?

ANSWER: From the given problem, I use a trial and error to identify the score needed to have a mean of 90. So I
start with the number 87, but when I compute the mean the result is approximately 89.8 so 87 is not the correct
answer. So I tried another number but this time I tried the number 88, the calculated mean is 90. therefore, jungkook
have to make 5 free throws to make it in the 6 th game.

You could also calculate the mean in this way. Let n be the score of the test left so we have, 85 + 95+ 88+94+n
over 5 since the total number of scores is 5. then equal to 90 which is the value of the mean. Then, by adding
the following values, we can have 362 + n over 5 equals 90. in order to eliminate the fraction here, we could
actually multiply both sides by 5 which will give us 362 + n =450. now we can transfer 362 from this side so
that we can separate the variable n. so we have, n = 450 -362 which is 88.

CHRISTINE:

The students will write at least 3 sentences toward the significance of calculating the mean, median and mode
where they can identify a real-life situation where they can relate their knowledge about the mean, median and
mode.

Calculating the mean, median and mode is vital, most specially in the education field. Like for instance,
stakeholders like teachers always use to calculate the mean average of the students in the entire quarter so that
they would know the performance of the students and be able them to determine whether their are something
that should be improve of or identify if the students have actually learn on their supervision.
