Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Grade 7

I. Objectives
At the end of 50 minutes lesson, 100% of the students should be able to attain at least 80%
proficiency level and should be able to:
a. define statistics
b. explain the importance of statistics in real life situations, and
c. interpret statistical data

ii. Review/ Motivation

Before we start our discussion let us

have a review first of what we you
have learned last meeting. On the
board I posted a 10 colored boxes
and each colored box correspond to
a letter. To reveal the letter you
must answer the questions
correctly. And if someone guesses
the word the game will be over.

Is it clear class?

Yes ma’am!

Red- it is half of a circle

Green- half of the diameter
Yellow- is a set of all points that is (expected answer)
equidistant to its center.
Pink- it is a line that intersects the Red - Diameter
circle at exactly one point Green – radius
Blue – it is an angle formed by radii Yellow – circle
and the vertex of its angle is at the Pink – tangent
Blue – Central Angle
center of the circle

S T A T I S T I C S

Again, what is the word that has

been revealed?
Statistics ma’am!
Are you familiar with the word
Statistics? What do you think
statistics used for?
Let the students answer.
All of you have an idea what is
statistics is.
To start our lesson I will post lyrics
on the board and we will go to sing
the lyrics. While singing, you are
going to choose what candy you
prefer. And later on we will use that
data.

Is it clear? Yes ma’am!

( In the tune of Twinkle Twinkle

Little Star )

DATA, data What are you?

We COLLECT you, oh it’s true.
ANALYZE you that’s my plan
INTERPRET to understand
DATA, data what are you?
I’ll present you right on cue.

Very good class!

What did you observed in the lyrics Ma’am there are words that are in bold font.
of the song?

Very good observation.

And those bold words are related to
our topic for today. And later on we
will explain it further.

B. LESSON PROPER

So our lesson for today is all about statistics,

the importance of statistics in our daily life
and how to collect and interpret data.

Everyone kindly read the definition of STATISTICS- is a branch of mathematics that deals
statistics. with collecting, organizing, analyzing and
interpreting data in order to obtain useful
information.
Going back to the lyrics again. The capitalize
words data, collect, organize, analyze and
Interpret. We will discuss it one by one to
explain further what statistics is all about.

First is the word data, what comes in your

mind when you hear the word data? Data are the different sorts of information that
could be a number or not.
Excellent!
Data is any quantitative or qualitative
information. Those data can be obtain
through different ways like the surveys,
interviews, observation and
experimentation.

Here are the examples of qualitative data:

weight, age, height and of course your
grades
While the quantitative data are:
Gender, citizenship, religion

What can you say about the difference of Qualitative data are data that in number form
the two data? while the quantitative data are all about the
characteristics.

Very good!
In statistics we will focus mainly in the
numerical data in order to obtain useful
information.
And to obtain that data we first need to use
the collection of data.

How many of you choose the Champi candy

and Maxx candy

Champi – xx
Maxx – xx

What I have done is an example of collecting

data. In your own words how can you define
collection of data? Collection of data is a process of obtaining
meaningful information.
Very good!
The next step is organizing the data that we
obtain.

Candy No. of students

Lush xx
Maxx xx
total xx

This is an example of organizing data. What

did I use to organize the data we’ve
collected? We have used the table to organize a data.

So explain what is organizing of data? It refers to the ascertaining manner of presenting

data into tables.

That’s correct. We are done in collecting and

organizing of data.. We could use graphs
and chart in organizing data.

Next is the analyzing of data

It refers to the process of extracting
relevant information from the given data
which numerical description can be
formulated.
Students will answer.
So in analyzing the data we are going to
translate the organized data into words.
So class how will you analyze our data?

Excellent!
And lastly the interpretation of data, we
usually draw conclusion from the analyzed
data. Student will answer.

From the data we analyzed what can you

conclude?

Very good!
Did you understand our discussion? Yes ma’am!
Are you sure? Yes ma’am!

C. APPLICATION
Class I will grouped you into 2 groups. Each
group will choose a leader to represent their
group. The leader will conduct a simple
collection of data among his/her group
mate. This is your task. You are going to ask
your group mates their position as a child in
their family. I will give you 5 minutes to
finish your task. Draw a conclusion after and Yes ma’am!
one member will interpret the data in front.

Is it clear?
Okay, time start’s now!
Position No. of students

Youngest
Middle
Eldest
Only child
D. GENERALIZATION
What have you learned in our discussion
today?

Very good!
Students will answer.
E. VALUING
Statistics is very important and useful in
different fields of study that could be
applied in our daily life.

For example in business, how can statistics

help in business?

And in what other fields can we apply Students answer.

statistics?

Students answer.
Statistics are very useful in our daily lives by
the use of statistics we can predict what will
be the outcome of something we are
analyzing. By simply gathering of
information we can conclude what is the
possible outcome of that information.

V. EVALUATION
Arrange the following set of data into a table, then analyze and interpret the data.

Children’s favorite food

Cake – 20
Ice cream – 15
Spaghetti – 10
Chicken joy – 17
Chocolate – 5
