Introduction
❖ Neutralisation is when an acid reacts with a base
quantitatively with each other resulting in a salt and water.
❖ We did our trials three times, using different acids with the
base being sodium hydroxide for all three trials.
❖ Our goal was to get the Sodium hydroxide and
phenolphthalein solution to turn into a colourless (not
transparent) solution.
❖ We formed a salt + water solution. Therefore our goal came
out successfully.
Trial 01 - Hydrochloric Acid + Sodium Hydroxide = Sodium Chloride
Trial 02 - Sulphuric Acid + Sodium Hydroxide = Sodium Sulfate
Trial 03 - Nitric Acid + Sodium Hydroxide = Sodium Nitrate

Acid (We used hydrochloric Hydrochloric Acid drops are
up 15 ml of Sodium hydroxide
acid for our FIRST trial). Our added continuously until the
solution in to the pipette.
burette reading was 22.2ml chemical indicator turns
colorless.

slowly into the base and
along with 3 drops of
Phenolphthalein (Chemical Phenolphthalein solution while being
Indicator) swirled.

05. Observations
❖ When we added the drops of
phenolphthalein to sodium hydroxide,
it turned pink with a pH level of 10.
❖ We observed that the sodium
hydroxide and phenolphthalein
solution turned colourless in a fast
pace.
