REACTION PAPER

I have read about the “The Flight from Conversation” by Sherry Turkle. This

was published last April 21, 2012. The article emphasizes how modern day

technologies over the years has change profoundly the way people

communicate with each other. Technology affects people anytime, anywhere by

paying attention to their cell phones, checking their social medias and

putting on earphones. Although technology has given us many forms of

communication and make things better and even easier, face to

face conversation unfolds slowly, and it limits our growth as human beings

and being disconnected from the real world. Technology has a great impact on

becoming who we are because we are hooked in using these technologies. I

agree with the article that technology keeps us away from a face to face

conversation because nowadays people are engage in using technology in

checking their social media accounts, updating what they do, where they

are, to the point that they tend to forget the real world. Face to

face communication is still the most effective way of communicating because

we can really feel the sincerity of the person we talk to than

relying on messages through devices.

According to Sherry Turkle people are using the technology as their companion

in life, they depend on the technology. And that statement is true though the

technology is very useful nowadays. We treat the technology as our best friend we

can lean to them when we really need them the most. But technology make us their

slaves why because we always depend on it, we did not work in our own way.

Children is the one prone to it because they are engaged to it even though they are

a child. We use the technology to communicate others, but we are not

communicating them in face-to-face. And people use it to find a job, to get a job

easier in just one click of the mouse. We didn’t mind that we do such thing to gain

money in easier way. We individuals do not appreciate the face-to-face conversation

to others instead we use the technology to communicate to them.

In conclusion, people need to build meaningful relationships with others to

succeed in life. Without these relationships, people feel lonely and seek

companionship, which they find through technology, and the cycle just keeps

repeating. Technology is such a great advancement in our society, but certain

aspects of day to day life cannot be attained through these online techniques. I feel

that face to face communication needs to be emphasized in our lives before we

entirely lose the ability to speak with others in person.
