3 Homework
3.1. Consider an object with coordinates (20 m, 15 m, 12 m). After half a minute the new coordinates of
the object are (1 m, 6 m, 7 m).
(a) Calculate the scalar velocity (||~v ||).
(b) Suppose that the scalar velocity in the initial coordinates is cero, and in the final coordinates
riches the scalar velocity found in a). Calculate the scalar acceleration.

Hunting
3.2. A wild pig is running at 30 m/s towards a hunter who is aiming at it with a bow. When the wild pig is
100 m away, the hunter throws an arrow with an angle of 30 referred from the ground. Find out the
initial velocity (“speed”) of the arrow in order to hit the wild pig before hitting the hunter. Suppose
that the arrow starts moving from the ground.

Particular angles
3.3. Consider an object thrown form the ground with an angle of ✓ and initial velocity vi . The object moves
in a parabolic way. With this general information:
(a) Find ✓0 for which the object reaches the maximum horizontal distance (xmax ) possible for that
vi .
(b) Find ✓1 for which the object reaches the same maximum hight and horizontal distance.

Escaping from the Indian

3.4. An Indian is on top of a 20 m mountain. A 1.70 m enemy is down the mountain, 5 m away from the
Indian (horizontal distance). The Indian shoots to his enemy an arrow, with 20 m/s and 50 . At the
very same time, the enemy runs away from the Indian. Calculate the acceleration needed by the enemy
in order to be hit by the arrow. Considere that there is a range of possibilities due to the height of the
enemy.

The archer
3.5. An archer is 200 m away from his target. When the archer points to his target, the arrow is exactly
at the same height as the center of his target. The archer can shoot the arrow only with an initial
velocity of 45 m/s
(a) Calculate the angle for which the arrow reaches the center of the target.
(b) Consider the same configuration as before (including the angle calculated before). Suppose that
there is wind blowing at 10 m/s with 20 . Calculate the height (over or below from the center)
where the arrow hits the target.
