I like to ponder about how many people there are on the globe regularly. I want to
imagine that whatever you're doing at whatever moment in time, somewhere in the
world, precisely may be doing what you're doing. This also leads me to believe that
there are billions of individuals doing something entirely different from you at the same
time. Moreover, with these ideas remaining in my mind, I am reminded of the concept
of empathy because everyone in the world has challenges and experiences that are
different from yours, yet other things may be similar. When I was in my junior high
school (8th grade), I have a new classmate, specifically a german girl. That time, I
noticed that her once-pale complexion had turned like a ripe cherry as a dark crimson
red spread across her face. As I approached a group of friends, I noticed a circle of
friends laughing and pointing to my girl classmate sitting on the ground. Her expression
reminded me of a newly born cat who is helpless, begging, panic, and humiliating, all
mingled into a single look. Thinking back on that day, that moment I approached her,
and we had a conversation. Those few seconds when the only thing that mattered to
me was fitting in with the crowd and getting on with my life, I didn't understand that this
was the day I thoroughly learned the value of empathy.
