Question # 01 (CLO: 1, PLO: 1 )

A split air conditioning unit operating on vapor compression cycle uses Refrigerant (R-134a).
The various state points of refrigerant (R-134a) are shown on the TS diagram.

Determine the following

a) The refrigerating effect 3

b) Compressor work 3
c) The heat rejected in the condenser 2
d) The COP of heating 2
e) The tonnage capacity of the unit for the refrigerant mass flow of 0.025 Kg/s 2

Question # 02 (CLO: 1, PLO: 1 )

For water-LiBr vapor absorption system

Condenser temperature = Absorber Temperature = 40°C

Evaporator temperature = 8°C and Generator temperature = 95 °C

The refrigerant enters the condenser in superheated state with mass flow rate of 0.3 Kg/s and
with enthalpy of 2698 KJ/Kg and leaves as liquid condensate with a temperature of 30 °C and
then enters the evaporator

The solution leaves the absorber with enthalpy of -50 KJ/Kg and concentration of LiBr is 0.60.
The solution leaves the generator with enthalpy of 15 KJ/Kg and concentration of LiBr is 0.70.

a) Tonnage Capacity 3
b) Heat Rejected in Condenser and Absorber 3
c) Mass flow rate of solution leaving the absorber and generator 2
d) COP of cooling of the system if pump work is neglected 3

Question # 03 (CLO: 2, PLO: 4 )

The moist air with a flow rate 100 kg/min, temperature of 40 °C and relative Humidity of 30%
enters the evaporator of air conditioner having temperature of 5°C. The cooling and
dehumidification process is performed on the air to bring it to a state of thermal comfort
Determine the following

a) Draw this process on Psychrometric chart and paste the figure in word file 2
b) Sensible heat factor of the process 3
c) The mass of water removed from the air 3
d) By pass factor of evaporator coil 4

Question # 04 15

(CLO: 3, PLO: 4 )

A class room situated on first floor has length, width and height of (20 ft = 6.096 m), (15 ft =
4.572 m) and (12 ft = 3.6576 m) respectively. 35 students and 1 teacher use the class room for
a class from 9am to12pm for a class. The room has 10 tube light each with a power
consumption of 25 watts (with usage factor of 1, ballast factor of 1 and CLF value of 0.9).
Only one wall of 20 feet length facing North with CLTD value of 20 °C is exposed to solar
radiations and also has 4 windows with total area of (40 ft2 = 0.092903 m2), shading coefficient
of 1 and solar heat gain factor of 140 Watts/m2 and CLF value of 1 no heat is conducted
through glass. 2 walls of 15ft width are partition wall with no temperature difference on both
side and 1 wall of 20 ft height facing south is exposed to surroundings air at 40°C temperature.
The infiltration occurring through the cracks of the room is equal to (Registration number
divide 10000) ACH. If the conditioned space has to be maintained at 25°C and 50% Relative
humidity. Calculate the cooling load at 12 pm in terms of room sensible heat, latent load and
find Room sensible heat factor.
