3. Introduction
This specification is a summary on how to calculate the cable size of the power supply of compressors.
For detailed information consult the valid directives.
NOTES:
• for figures 1 and 2:
For DOL and VSD variants: only K21 is used
Also possible connection made through 1X0
• for figure 3:
Only valid for Wye / Delta
Conditions:
• PVC insulation
• Copper conductors with max temperature of 70°C
• Ambient temperatures 30°C.
• For the other ambient temperatures in the following tables correction table B.52-14 is used

5.2.2. Example
Compressor type : IEC Full feature with I tot FF = 133A
Ambient operating temperature is maximum 50°C
Add 10% for ampacity I cable due to 10% over/under voltage
Cables to be used :
A. 3phase + 1PE: as in fig 1
I cable = 133A +10% = 146,3A
• Maximum ampacity for cable 95mm², method B2, ambient 50°C = 127A
• Maximum ampacity for cable 120mm², method B2, ambient 50°C = 146A (Max for B2)
• Maximum ampacity for cable 70mm², method C, ambient 50°C = 131A
• Maximum ampacity for cable 95mm², method C, ambient 50°C = 158A
• Maximum ampacity for cable 50mm², method F, ambient 50°C = 119A
• Maximum ampacity for cable 70mm², method F, ambient 50°C = 153A
Conclusion:
You cannot use method B2, use 95mm² cable with method C, or 70mm² cable with method F
Conclusion:
Use 70mm² cable with method B2 or 50mm² cable with method C or 35mm² cable with method F
Conclusion:
Use 70mm² cable with method B or 70mm² cable with method C or 50mm² cable with method F

6.2.1. Instructions
NOTES:
(*) Size PE cable:
• For supply cables up to AWG8 -> same size as supply cables
• For supply cables larger then AWG8 -> use max allowed ampacity of selected supply cables and compare with value in table below
(See CEC part1 table 17)
(**) For prescribed maximum fuse: see AIB: < 100A use AWG8, < 200A use AWG6, < 400A use AWG3
6.2.2. Example
Compressor Type :UL/cUL Full feature with I tot FF = 133A
Add 10% for ampacity I cable due to 10% over/under voltage
Ambient operating temperature is maximum 50°C
Cables to be used :
A. 3phase + 1PE: as in fig 1
I cable = 133A x 1,1 = 146,3A
• Maximum ampacity for AWG2/0, ambient 50°C = 131A
• Maximum ampacity for AWG3/0, ambient 50°C = 150A
Conclusion:
Use AWG3/0 cable
Conclusion:
Use AWG1 cable
Conclusion:
Use AWG1/0 cable
