One Sunday afternoon, Arnel, the baker is busy cooking
pancakes. Jonas, his helper is busy packing orange juice and
pineapple juice. They will bring these to their classroom where
anybody can buy them anytime.

Compound Word – comes from two different words that have been
put together to form a new word with a new meaning.

Compound words may be closed ( written as one), open (written


with space between words), or hyphenated (connected by a hyphen).

Closed ( written as one)


Examples:
haircut = hair + cut
toothbrush= tooth + brush
classmate = class + mate
toothpaste= tooth + paste

Open (written with space between words)


Examples:
mother tongue = mother + tongue
comfort room = comfort + room
ice cream = ice + yard
cotton buds = cotton + buds

Hyphenated (connected by a hyphen)


Examples:
son-in-law
passers-by
daughter-in-law
name-calling
mother-of-pearl

Activity proper

While playing a song, the cabbage will be passed from one person to
another, when the song stops, the pupil holding the it will peel the
cabbage. The cabbage consists of clues and questions about
compound words.
